Egg Campaign Hinges On Trial

A trial at Wentworth Park on Tuesday night will determine whether Maitland Gold Cup winner Len Me Dad contests Saturday night's heats of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg.

Len Me Dad took out Thursday's group 2 Maitland Cup by running down pacemaker Vamoose in time which was just .09sec outside the race record established by Good Odds Cash in 2022.

Ruth Matic, trainer of Len Me Dad, said: "He has trialled 29.70 at Wentworth Park but in races in the past he has hit a brick wall about 20 metres from the finish.

"I'm hoping he has got stronger with age and fitness so will give him another look on Tuesday and decide from there.''

Meanwhile outstanding Victorian sprinter Rejuvenate clocked a disappointing 30.30 in a solo trial at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

Regarded as one of the best chances in the Easter Egg, Rejuvenute stumbled coming out of the boxes but while the track had been deep harrowed 24 hours earlier, the dog had been expected to break the 30sec barrier.

Plenty of water had made the track surface faster by the time racing got under way at Wentworth Park on Saturday but even so, trainer Michael Hardman would have been delighted with the slick 42.10sec posted by his Association Cup hopeful Zipping Whiskey in a 720m solo hit-out.

Zipping Whiskey trialled just before the opening race and recorded figures several lengths faster than his previous best Wentworth Park 720m time.

Heats of the Group 1 Association Cup will be run over 720m at Wentworth Park on April 1.

Kiss Me Kev notched his fifth successive win on Thursday over 400m at Maitland but for trainer Chris Kedwell the jury is still out on whether his brilliant short course speedster will run 520m.

"I am quietly confident he will eventually get 520m when he matures and settles down a bit on race day,'' Kedwell said.

"His problem now is that he uses up so much energy going to the boxes, pulling hard and working himself up so much I believe it must take a lot out of him.

"Kiss Me Kev has been beaten just once, at his first start when he finished third in a heat of the big 305m maiden race at Coonamble on October 1.

"He is probably unlucky not to be undefeated as I took him to Coonamble because he was showing so much ability as an unraced youngster.

"But he dislocated a toe during the Coonamble race and did not start again until February 13.''

Kiss Me Kev is raced by his breeder Peter Keegan, who won nine races with the greyhound's dam Precious Lulu.

Keegan's father Kevin had bred Precious Lulu from his race winning bitch Kiss Me Milo.
