Rockstar Derserves A Crack At The Egg

By Jeff Collerson
Rockstar Apollo earned a crack at next Saturday night's Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg heats with a sizzling 29.63 best of the night performance at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

Rockstar Apollo's scorching time even surpassed the 29.79 posted by She's A Pearl who scored her 31st win at her 51st outing in the 520m Free-For-All.

Shaun Evans, trainer, breeder and part-owner of Rockstar Apollo, had a night to remember, also winning with that greyhound's litter brothers Rockstar Heeney in 30.20 and Rockstar Rampe in 30.28.

"They are all young enough to contest the New Sensation heats on March 29 but Rockstar Apollo will be having a crack at the $300,000 to the winner Golden Easter Egg,'' Evans said.

"Tonight he was having his first race for a month and would have been a run under-done so there should be some improvement in him.

"I will probably put his siblings Rockstar Heeney and Rockstar Rampe in the New Sensation heats or the heats of the Ultra Sense on March 31.''

While She's A Pearl did not record fastest time of the night, she lost no admirers after giving noted powerful finisher Ibrox Wildfire a hefty start and a beating in the top grade 520m event.

She's A Pearl did not begin with her usual brilliance and after being second to the half-way mark, swept around Ibrox Wildfire, who clocked flying early splits of 5.39 and 13.70, leaving the back straight.

Ibrox Wildfire's trainer Billy Dance later had a $10,000 consolation when he won Saturday night's Road To The Egg Final with that greyhound's litter sister Mayfair Reign.

Mayfair Reign, who was a giveaway to Dance and was one of the outsiders of the field, led throughout and won easily in 30.10.

Dance explained later: "Mayfair Reign was offered on the internet as a giveaway in return for pups from any litters she may have.

"Her form was pretty ordinary but because she was a litter sister to Ibrox Wildfire, who has won over $80,000 in prizemoney for me, I figured she had to be worth something even, if only as a brood bitch.''

Mayfair Reign has been more than that for Dance as Saturday's win was her third in three Wentworth Park appearances.

Three grand-daughters of popular trainer Luke Azzopardi were on top of the world after their greyhound Ollie Impact led throughout on Saturday night, scoring his first Wentworth Park win after three placings at the track.

"I bred Ollie Impact from my brood bitch Mrs Emgrand and made a gift of him to my grand-daughters Brittany, 24, Natalie, 22 and Bianca, 19,'' Azzopardi said later.

"It's their first dog so they are absolutely rapt.''

After the race Natalie said: "We wanted to put Impact somewhere in his name because our grand-dad had a terrific dog called Royal Impact.''

Royal Impact won seven races at Wentworth Park between 2001 and 2003 and when retired was exported to Ireland, where he became among the country's most successful stud dogs.
