A Fascinating Clash On Saturday

By Jeff Collerson
Fascinate Mel will take on She's A Pearl in Saturday night's top grade 520m race at Wentworth Park after notching her fastest win at headquarters on Wednesday.

Sent out as a $15 chance, Fascinate Mel led all the way to beat hot favourite Zipping Novak by three lengths in 29.63, .11sec faster than any of her previous nine Wentworth Park wins.

Remarkably Fascinate Mel has been sent out at double figure odds in seven of her Wentworth Park victories over the past 10 months.

Fascinate Mel and Noelene Holloway after the win at Wentworth Park

After Wednesday's race owner-trainer Noelene Holloway said: "That's the fastest I've ever had a greyhound run at Wenty.

"Magic Spring, my 2016 National Derby winner, won 21 races at Wentworth Park but didn't go anywhere near as quick while I won 17 races at Wenty with Queen Esther, but the best she clocked were 29.64 and 29.67 in two wins in June, 2014.

"Only reason I nominated Fascinate Mel for Wentworth Park on Saturday night is that her mission is the Golden Easter Egg and with the heats on March 25, she would have not had a race for 10 days if I had kept her home after Wednesday's race.''

Coast Model, who was runner-up to her kennelmate She's A Pearl in the Million Dollar Chase at Wentworth Park last May, has run her last race and been retired to stud.

Owner Clay Mullens said: "She was in the semi-finals of the Country Classic at Dubbo last Saturday but came in season and had to be scratched.

"We have decided to breed from her and she will be mated with Bernardo.''

Coast Model registered 28 wins and 21 placings from 82 starts, amassing nearly $269,000 in prizemoney.

Springview Bust continued his remarkable run of consistency with his all-the-way win at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night, taking his record to nine wins, six seconds and three thirds from 18 starts.

Part-owner Ray Tanti said: "He is no champion but he is a handy little dog and to fill a placing in every race he has contested is a terrific achievement, not many dogs can claim a record like that.''

Springview Bust gave Joe McFadyen a winning double, as the under-rated Kariong trainer also won with Sandstorm Rico, a new addition to his kennels.

Victorian greyhounds have won 10 Golden Easter Egg finals since 2007 and will have a powerful representative this year when the sensational Rejuvenate tackles the March 25 heats.

Rejuvenate ran a record smashing 24.59 winning over 450m at Shepparton on March 4 and a week later overcame trouble to win over 525m at The Meadows in a near record 29.55.

The Paul Brown owned and trained sensation, who tips the scales at a hefty 38kg, will have his first look at Wentworth Park in a solo trial on Saturday.
