Preview: Wentworth Park Thursday

By Jeff Collerson
Depeche won her first three races by a total of more than 26 lengths and is ready to pick up where she left off two months ago when she resumes at Wentworth Park on Thursday night.

Depeche will exit box one for the first time but trainer Peter Lagogiane said she is ideally drawn and is "trialling the house down."

Her only defeat was at her most recent outing when she drew box eight in a heat of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Opal at Wentworth Park on June 29.

In that race Depeche missed the jump and was severely hampered trying to cross to the rails in the run to the first turn, winding up sixth to Tulsi Banner, who went on to win the final in 29.60.

But Depeche clocked 29.58 in her all the way Wentworth Park win from box two on June 21 and Peter Lagogiane said: "Since resuming she may have lost a fraction of her early pace but that should return with race fitness.

"I could not be happier with her this preparation and Depeche is trialling the house down.''

Jack Jack Binks has been placed in each of two Wentworth Park appearances and trainer Jim York believes the dog can lead throughout in Thursday night's Farrell's 4X2 Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Jack Jack Binks has had three wins and two seconds from his past five starts and York is not concerned about his greyhound's box six draw.

"He loves it out there, he runs a nice straight line from the boxes to the bend and never crashes to the fence,'' York said.

"When finishing second and third in his two previous Wentworth Park starts he has run into 29.68 and 29.75 dogs and Jack Jack Binks can't run those times.

"But I think he has found a couple of tenths since he last raced at Wentworth Park and is capable of clocking around 29.90 with a clear run.

"Jack Jack Binks is not strong at the finish but providing he jumps cleanly he is capable of getting away with a handy lead.

"In each of his past six starts at The Gardens, Jack Jack Binks has broken five seconds for the first split and that is consistently quick.

"He has had box six on six occasions for a win and five placings.''

Siska Roy was third to the back straight and faded to finish sixth at his only Wentworth Park 720m test but trainer Greg Hore believes he will be stronger in Thursday's Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 0-3 win mixed 720m event.

"I'm confident he will run the 720m out better than he did on August 3 but I'm not sure how quick he can go,'' Hore said.

"I also have Gentle Gemma in this race and when I trialled them over 500m recently he beat her by three lengths, although she was taking ground off him at the finish."

"In Siska Roy's favour on Thursday night is box eight, he is ideally positioned, because he had box one when he finished sixth at his only 720m race.''

Hore also has On The Razzle, who overcame a check to win in 29.93 at Wentworth Park on August 10, in the Ladbrokes Blackbook Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"Although On The Razzle had box six when he won in 29.93 at his last Wenty start, I'm disappointed he has that draw again,'' Hore said.

"He hasn't got great early pace so I prefer him drawn inside.

"But if he gets a clear run early without getting touched he should be hard to beat because he is strong.''

Jason Magri is enjoying his most successful year and has five strong chances at Wentworth Park on Thursday.

The Kemps Creek trainer has Zipping Kristoff in box seven in the Ladbrokes Sports Bar Stakes, Zipping Angelica in box four up against Depeche in the Equalizer @ Stud Stakes, Canya Love Me (box four) and Zipping Teresa (box six) in the Geoff "Smokey" Dawson Stakes and On Report exiting box four in the Ladbrokes Odds Surge Stakes.

The talented Zipping Kristoff and Zipping Angelica have won six of their eight starts at the provincials but Magri's best prospects could be Canya Love Me and On Report.

Canya Love Me, who races best when "on the lure", was unable to make the pace when fourth at Wentworth Park last Thursday but had won three of her previous four starts.

Canya Love Me

On Report has hit the front before finishing second in each of his two Wentworth Park appearances but tackles slightly easier opposition on Thursday and should lead all the way.
