Siblings Star At Wenty

Gets Late Early and Both Bowers Ace, siblings from owner-breeders Denis Donoghue and Peter McDermott's sensational Flying Ricciardo-Poco Dorado litter, starred again at Wentworth Park on Saturday night with both scoring brilliant wins.

Trained by Minnie Finn, Gets Late Early, who won the group one National Futurity in 29.85 earlier this year, led throughout to win the top grade 520m event in a flying 29.58.

Earlier in the night her kennel mate Both Bowers Ace had run down pacemaker Slick Rambo to win a fifth grade over the same course in 29.75.

And next Saturday night Finn has Might Have Been, another from this remarkable February 2022, Poco Dorado litter, in the final of the National Sprint Championship at Angle Park.

Might Have Been - 2024 NSW State Sprint Champion

"I'm off to Adelaide on Monday to trial Might Have Been over the 530m Championship trip and he has drawn well in the final, getting box seven,'' Finn said on Saturday.

"I expected Gets Late Early to go well Tonight because since winning three in a row in July she has had no luck in two races at Wenty.

"Both Bowers Ace dropped back to fifth grade Tonight and he is eligible for another fifth grade at Wentworth Park.

"Only reason he had been racing in tougher class was because I had given him his chance in the National Sprint Championship series.''

Both Bowers Ace's win on Saturday was his fifth at Wentworth Park while Gets Late Early's success was her seventh at headquarters.

And in her runaway win by nearly seven lengths, Gets Late Early relegated her litter brother Poco Rico, also from the all-conquering Minnie Finn kennel, to second placing.

Miss Zig Zag and Toodles Jack have earned a crack at next month's group two Sires On Ice Black Top at LADBROKES GARDENS with their win and second placing at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

The Syd Swain-trained Miss Zig Zag led throughout from box five to win a 520m fifth grade in a personal best 29.60 after reeling off flying early splits of 5.38 and 13.75.

Her kennel mate Toodles Jack made the pace to the home turn in another fifth grade before being caught in the straight and beaten a half length by the Mark Gatt-trained Sammy Ethan.

Syd Swain said: "Miss Zig Zag hates being crowded and she likes to move up the straight.

"Tonight she nailed the start and was able to hold the lead without any other dogs hampering her on the outside and she showed what she can do when left alone early.

"I was equally impressed with Toodles Jack's run because he was having his first start for five weeks and he just got run down in 29.63.

"Toodles Jack is a serious dog and I think he is capable of running the hands off the clock around a track like The Gardens.''

Sammy Ethan, who ran down Toodles Jack, is trained by Mark Gatt, who said: "He just keeps improving.

"Previously Sammy Ethan has wanted to circle his rivals but Tonight he railed up underneath the leader.

"He is by Fernando Bale and I notice a lot of that sire's progeny take time to reach their peak.''

Later in the night Golden Phase, trained by Troy Halligan, took her record to six wins from just nine starts with a dazzling all the way fifth grade win, covering the 520m in a personal best 29.53.
