Preview: Wentworth Park Saturday

By Jeff Collerson
Overflow Jill carved out a sizzling 5.36 first split when she led throughout at Wentworth Park on August 8 and trainer Craig Chappelow believes she may need to repeat those figures there on Saturday night.

Overflow Jill, who has gone as quick as a 5.32 initial section at Wentworth Par, took 30.04 for the 520m in her most recent win yet boasts a personal best of 29.60.

On Saturday Overflow Jill has box three in the Jared Lawrence Cup, a 520m fifth grade, and Chappelow said: "She looks to be drawn all right but I have a high opinion of Hooked On Fame and he has box one.

"Jill needs to come out of the boxes like she did last run and get a break over him and the rest of the field.

"She is not getting to the line as strongly as she was earlier in her career because she only got home in 12 last start but she has previously run 11.80.

"Last week the track was on the slow side and Overflow Jill is definitely better when she gets on top of the surface so I'm hoping for a dry track.

"If the track is heavy she could be vulnerable in the latter stages.''

Still Available, who thrives on racing, looks well placed in Saturday night's Equalizer @ Stud Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

The dog has box seven but has registered four wins and six placings from 13 Wentworth Park appearances, while his seven rivals have amassed a total of only four wins.

"It certainly looks a winnable race but Tip Me, the bitch trained by Darryl Thomas, has box one and seems to be very smart,'' Still Available's trainer Garry Coles said.

"Although Still Available has won four at Wenty, I thought his second behind ALI TANGO was as good as any of those wins, it was a cracker of a run because he must have given the winner 10 lengths down the back straight.

"I trialled him at Dapto on Monday and Still Available flew, was bouncing around non-stop the next morning, so is at his peak.''

From The East's fastest Wentworth Park time of 29.65 was posted she drew box two on June 21 but she is perfectly positioned in box eight in Saturday night's Ladbokes Odds Surge Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

When she clocked her quickest Wentworth Park figures From The East wanted to push wide from her inside draw but was able to retain the lead at the crucial first corner.

The Hayley Moffitt-trained From The East resumed from a spell to win over 440m at Goulburn on August 2 and looms as Saturday's best value bet.

The star wager though should be Rebel Ethics, who has box one in the 520m Ladbrokes Racing Club Masters Stakes.

The Jake White-trained dog has won two of his past four Wentworth Park Masters events, the latest in a nippy 29.87.

But he recorded close to his personal best figures when he led throughout from box one on July 20, stopping the clock at 29.64.

Good Odds Cobber will be seeking his 10th Wentworth Park 520m win when he exits box seven in Saturday's top grade event, the King Of The Un Stakes.

Good Odds Cobber had box one when he led throughout in a best of the night 29.62 at Wentworth Park last Saturday but goes from box seven this week.

While trainer Frank Hurst has always preferred Good Odds Cobber from an inside alley, the dog is so classy he has managed to win seven of his 11 races from the two wide draws, seven and eight.
