Megastar Next For Cobber

By Jeff Collerson
Good Odds Cobber produced a slashing trial for NSW's next group one race, the Ladbrokes Dapto Megastar, with another dashing Wentworth Park win on Saturday night.

Trained by Frank Hurst, who won the 2019 Million Dollar Chase with Good Odds Harada, Good Odds Cobber led all the way to take out the top grade 520m event in a fast 29.62, fastest time of the night.

It was Good Odds Cobber's ninth win in 13 Wentworth Park appearances and gave the dog a marvellous record of six wins and a placing in seven appearances from box one.

Hurst is setting Good Odds Cobber for the $75,000 to the winner Dapto Megastar, which will be run over 520m on September 12.

On The Razzle, who was entered for Saturday's meeting only because nominations were extended, scored an impressive 29.93 fifth grade 520m win for trainer Greg Hore.

On The Razzle's effort was outstanding as he was checked off the heels of the pacemaker Big Town Tilly going through the catching pen.

Later his trainer Greg Hore said: "I have a high opinion of On The Razzle who is a younger half brother to my stayer Cassie Cool, who won over 720m at Wentworth Park tonight.

"On The Razzle's problem is he is extremely timid, and he is absolutely terrified of people.

"He is a son of Soaring Hawke and is probably her best offspring, although unlike his older half sisters I don't think he will stay.

"On The Razzle clocked the fastest time of the day in a 440m trial at Goulburn on Tuesday so I expected him to run well tonight.''

Cassie Cool, who gave Hore a winning double, came from a long last in a field of five to easily run down long distance newcomer Kangaroo Jack in Saturday's 720m fifth grade.

It was Cassie Cool's third staying win at Wentworth Park with her time of 42.44 being just outside her personal best figures of 42.37.

Irinka George, who was originally trained by Jack Smith, of Palawa King, Feral Franky and Jungle Deuce fame, scored his first Wentworth Park win for new trainer Stuart Barron when he led all the way to take out a 520m fifth grade on Saturday in 30.01.

Barron explained after the race: "Early this year I approached Jack Smith to see if he had any dogs for sale.

"He told me he intended to part with Irinka George, who was unraced at the time.

"Jack said he would give him a couple of races at Dubbo and if I liked what I saw I could buy him.

"Irinka George finished third and fourth in those races and I was quite impressed so I got him.

"Jack warned me he had bad box manners but I have given him a lot of box practice over the past few days and it seems to have paid off because he led all the way tonight.''

Sydney trainer Robbie Tyler continued his successful association with Victorian trainer and owner Aaron Debattista when Letizia led throughout to win a 520m fifth grade in 30.14 on Saturday night.

Having only her second Wentworth Park outing, Letizia showed good speed from box four to lead around the first turn before coming away to win by six lengths in 30.14.

After the race Robbie Tyler said: "She was up in weight a little tonight and I was worried she might get tired.

"But she went to the line pretty well, although I had breathed a sigh of relief when she just managed to clear the dogs in boxes two and three to be in front rounding the first turn.

"Aaron Debattista has a lot of dogs in his kennels so earlier this year he began sending me a few and it has been a good relationship.''
