Wentworth Park Thursday Preview

By Jeff Collerson
When Cherry Rose won on debut at Temora she smashed the record for a maiden greyhound in a 457m race and trainer Peter Sims expects her to win first up at Wentworth Park on Thursday night.

Unbeaten in two races at Temora, Cherry Rose will exit box three in the Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Stakes, a 520m event for greyhounds with one to two wins.

Nangar Larry clocked 25.72 when he won his 457m maiden at Temora and has since gone on to take out another 23 races, earning $190,000 in prizemoney.

Cherry Rose began fast and led all the way in sensational 25.53 maiden win at Temora and a week later she overcame a slow start to easily take out a 330m fifth grade there.

"She is a litter sister to Rinsed The Lot, the recent Vic Peters Classic winner,'' Peter Sims said.

"In a post-to-post slip at WP Cherry Rose clocked a smart 24.07 and given a clear run on a dry track I think she is capable of running as fast as 29.50.''

Sims, the Wagga trainer who launched the career of the mighty She's A Pearl, is also bringing His Fernando and Impress Spieth to WP on Thursday.

His Fernando had no luck when second, beaten a length by It's A Freeze, at his WP debut last Thursday, while Impress Spieth, who has had two wins and two seconds from five Temora appearances, will be racing at headquarters for the first time.

His Fernando has box four in the Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes and Sims said: "He clocked 24.31 in a post-to-post slip at Wenty but did a lot wrong in his race there last week.

"Although he ran second, I had expected him to win but he found trouble because he didn't jump as well as he should have done.''

Impress Spieth has box four in the Ladbrokes Racing Club 520m fifth grade and Sims said: "He has plenty of ability but has disappointed me at his past couple of starts.''

LADY WILSON, who stunned racegoers with a blistering all-the-way 29.58 as a $26 outsider at WP last Saturday night, meets similar class in Thursday's Equalizer @ Stud Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

Trainer Sam Sultana concedes he was "a bit surprised" LADY WILSON went so fast on Saturday but warns she will need to jump fast again if she is to overcome her box seven draw on Thursday.

"She is desperate for an inside box and goes hard left when she jumps,'' Sultana said.

"Last Saturday LADY WILSON managed to nail the start and get across to the lead and she will need to do the same thing again on Thursday.

"Still Available, who has box one after leading all the way and winning at WP in 29.66 last week, will be hard to beat.''

Sultana's daughter Michelle has her unbeaten Vic Peters Classic winner Rinsed The Lot in box two in Thursday's top grade Ladbrokes Odds Surge Stakes where he clashes with his kennelmate Fear The Dragon, ideally positioned in eight.

"Rinsed The Lot is in a tough grade because he has won only two age restricted races at WP and he is up against dogs like Good Odds Cobber, who has won eight races at the track,'' Michelle Sultana said.

"Rinsed The Lot can obviously win again although CABAO JASPER, a wide runner in box one, could cause him a bit of grief early.''

Rinsed The Lot remains undefeated after six straight wins to begin his career

Michelle Sultana has excellent prospects of taking out Thursday's Ladbroke It! fifth grade 520m event with Aston Florin.

"He has box five but should be hard to toss if he can clear them from box five,'' she said.

Aston Florin led throughout to win over 401m at Richmond in a best of the night 22.72 at his most recent outing on June 24 and began brilliantly from box six to lead all the way in 29.94 at his WP debut on March 8.

Despite racing wide, he sped over the first section in a flying 5.41 and should only need to repeat that performance to win on Thursday.
