Mackenna Back In NSW For MDC Bid

By Jeff Collerson
Golden Easter Egg winner Mackenna is back in NSW and will head to Maitland for the 450m regional heats of the Million Dollar Chase on August 26.

After winning at Albion Park on July 4 in the best time of the night, Mackenna was with local trainer Paul Abela for her 525m win at Melbourne's The Meadows on August 3, again clocking fastest time of the meeting.

Mackenna returned to the kennels of his Golden Easter Egg winning NSW trainers Michelle Sultana and Darryl Thomas early this week to be prepared for the series opener at Maitland.

Joining Mackenna at Maitland will be the Michelle Sultana-trained Rinsed The Lot, who by-passed the current National Sprint Championship series to be set for the Million Dollar Chase.

Rinsed The Lot, who has had seven starts for six wins, is unbeaten in four races at Maitland and has clocked 29.44 for the Wentworth Park 520m trip.

He will have his next race at Bulli on Tuesday.

Although Rinsed The Lot has not raced at that south coast circuit, he trialled in the outstanding time of 26.07 over 472m there last week.

The Million Dollar Chase race record at Wentworth Park stands at 29.32, posted by She's A Pearl in her 2022 victory.

Mackenna's co-trainer Darryl Thomas almost won the 2020 Million Dollar Chase, with his greyhound Xerri being runner-up to Handsome Prince.

Xerri had no luck as he was fifth at the first turn and a distant third, giving the winner eight lengths' start on the back straight, and going down by just under two lengths.

This year's Million Dollar Chase semi-finals will be held at Wentworth Park on October 12, with the final at the same course six nights later.

Trainer David Smith appears to have a stranglehold on Thursday afternoon's NSW Straight Track Championship at Richmond with Express Ethics in box one, Sublime Ethics in four, Jazzy Ethics in seven and also having first reserve Awesome Ethics in his kennel.

With a personal best Richmond 324m time of 17.30, Express Ethics is the quickest dog in the $10,000 to the winner race and has won 12 of his 24 starts up the Londonderry straight track.

"Jazzy Ethics also goes well up the straight and has won 15 from 30 there but Express Ethics is my most likely winner,'' David Smith said.

"Actually in solo trials Sublime Ethics is faster than either of them but she gets too far back in the early stages in full fields.

"Express Ethics had box four when he won his Prelude last week in 17.52 but box one will suit him.

"He runs in a fairly straight line and while he used to crash to the fence when the mechanical lure was in operation, Express Ethics tends to maintain his line behind the drag lure.''
