Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic (G1)

This Greyhound Has The Lot

By Jeff Collerson
Greyhound racing is hailing a potential champion after Rinsed The Lot took his record to six wins from six starts with a near race record win in the group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Trained by Michelle Sultana for a syndicate headed by Brad Canty and which includes group 1 winning jockey Brenton Avdulla, Rinsed The Lot "bullied" Ferness out of the lead at the first turn and then staved off a fast finish from Flash Boom Bang to win by just over a length.

Rinsed The Lot's time for the 520m was the second fastest in the history of the race, and was just .11sec outside the race record set by Zipping Remus in 2023.

Owner Brad Canty, who has raced top class big race winners like No Donuts and Awesome Project, boldly declared Rinsed The Lot "his best ever" after the dog had won on debut at Maitland on November 30.

Before Rinsed The Lot's all the way Vic Peters heat win in 29.41 Canty divulged that the dog had a setback and had not been trialled for 10 days so was short of a run.

Yet Rinsed The Lot led throughout to beat Boston Banner and on Saturday night, when Ferness jumped fast from box three and disputed the lead with Canty's dog, who had box four, the $2.50 favourite drove across to the lead.

He effectively "bullied" Ferness out of the pacemaking role and went on to win, chased home by Flash Boom Bang and Ferness.

Rinsed The Lot is trained by Michelle Sultana, who won this year's Golden Easter Egg with Mackenna and is enjoying her best year with the lead and collar.

Rinsed The Lot made favourite backers happy and so did Tulsi Banner, who was sent out a $3.10 favourite and took out Saturday's other group 1 final, the Peter Mosman Opal.

Tulsi Banner had led all the way to win her heat in 29.59 from box four and while some experts believed she had a tougher task from box six on Saturday, her trainer Barry Gibbons was delighted.

Before the race Gibbons said: "Tulsi Banner stepped to the right from box four so I'm happy seeing her out wide in box six in the final.''

In winning Tulsi Banner emulated her dam Lilly Banner, who won the Peter Mosman for Gibbons in 20.20.

Lilly Banner ran a race record 29.75 when she won but her figures were lowered when Nangar Lucy won the 2023 final in 29.59.

Tulsi Banner gave that time a shake on Saturday, stopping the clock at 29.60.

After the race Gibbons said: "Now Tulsi Banner will be getting a cheeseburger and an ice cream on the way home.''

The Peter Mosman has been a great race for the Gibbons family, as Barry's father, Barry Gibbons senior, won the race in 2002 with Big Sam Banner.

Training honours on Saturday night were with Jodie Lord, who was successful with Omega Travis in 29.62, Computer Model in 30.09 and with her new acquisition, stayer Linkin Girl, in 42.48.

Steve Fitch, until recently only a hobby trainer, continued his remarkable run of success in Masters races by winning Saturday's event with Cumbria Kid in 29.76.

Fitch not only won the event, but also landed the trifecta, with Cumbria Kid's litter siblings Cumbria Miss and Cumbria Mal filling the placings.

Fitch bred the trio, who earned him a cool $8825 on Saturday night, lifting the combined earnings of the trio to an eye-watering $348,435.
