She's A Pearl Chasing Brother Fox

By Jeff Collerson
She's A Pearl took her earnings to just on $1.7 million with her courageous win in Friday night's Evans & Son Appreciation Stakes and will now Chase another $50,000 payday in the Brother Fox Cup at Dubbo.

On Friday She's A Pearl had to overcome a check from wide running pacemaker Fascinate Mel at the first turn to hit the front leaving the catching pen and then holding off Wyndra All Class by a length in a slick 29.72.

After the race trainer Andy Lord said: "What can you say about her, she is just an absolute champion.

"She's A Pearl is a very brave greyhound, she is not scared of anything so is fearless when she gets a bump like she did tonight.

"I will now take her to Dubbo next Saturday night for heats of the Brother Fox Cup, chasing the $50,000 to the winner final on May 20.''

When Father Rick ran down Mr Determine to win a fourth grade on Friday night in a personal best 29.67, diners at a cafe in Salzburg, Austria, were left mystified by the cheering from a neighbouring table.

That's because Father Rick's trainer Ray Webster his wife Sharron, the greyhound's owner, watched their dog win while dining at a Salzburg cafe as they took time out from a European river cruise.

"Father Rick's strapper Norm Wilson handled the dog for us but we managed to watch the race in this little cafe so the rest of the diners must have been wondering what all the cheering and noise coming from our table was all about,'' Ray Webster said.

Father Rick's win was his seventh at Wentworth Park and boosted his prizemoney to more than $107,000.

Zipping Maserati, who had not won a race since January, bounced back to top form by coming from third early to run down Len Me Dad and win Friday night's Sires On Ice Bob Payne Appreciation Stakes.

Making full use of box one, Zipping Maserati scored his 27th victory for trainer Marty Hallinan, stopping the clock at 29.69, just .17sec wide of his personal best Wentworth Park figures.

Zipping Maserati took out last year's Brother Fox Cup at Dubbo and now looks set to have another crack at western NSW's biggest race next Saturday.

Palawa King is favourite to win Saturday night's $500,000 to the winner Ladbrokes 715 at The Gardens but he was beaten into second place in his maiden race by Lithgow Road, who scored at Wentworth Park on Friday.

Trained by Paul Roach, Lithgow Road followed a 30.15 Wentworth Park win on April 19 by coming from second in the early stages to win Friday's 520m fifth grade by over five lengths in 30.30.

Roach said: "Yes, he beat Palawa King when he won his maiden race at Bathurst last August, but Palawa King has since gone from strength to strength.

"But Lithgow Road has always had ability because at his first Wenty start in October he dropped a pin muscle and had to be spelled.

"Earlier this year I brought him back racing up the straight at Richmond and he won twice over 324m there before landing his two Wenty wins.''

Fastest 520m time on Friday night was posted by Wentworth Park newcomer Rocket Riot, who took his tally to six wins from seven starts when he led all the way in 29.63.

Trained by Peter Lagogiane, Rocket Riot, who was having his first test beyond 388m, is closely related to Lagogiane's 2018 Million Dollar Chase winner Mystic Riot.
