Heath Having Great Success With His Small Team

By Jeff Collerson
Allan Buman was a rugby league test player and a highly successful greyhound trainer and now his son Heath has picked up the lead and collar and is enjoying success with his two dog team.

Heath Buman trained Voodoo Beast to win at Maitland on Monday while that dog's litter brother and kennelmate Classique Beast qualified for next Monday's Maitland Mother's Day Necklace final by finishing third in his heat.

"I have been training for eight months but because I work fulltime I have limited my team to just these two dogs, which were produced by Far A Part, a bitch mum and dad raced with a lot of success,'' Heath Buman said.

"Classique Beast initially had a lot of trouble getting around the bends so I took him to Richmond where he won three races up the 324m straight course.

"But he has a lot of ability, more than Voodoo Beast who won in 22.93 over 400m at Maitland, and I hope to eventually get him to Wentworth Park.

"I got into the game to give dad an interest, as he is now 83 and is getting around on a walking stick but still loves the greyhounds.''

Allan and Barbara Buman had a succession of smart greyhounds, none better than Rose Anjane, who won 19 of 37 races in 2006 and 2007.

Allan Buman took up greyhound training after retiring from rugby league, where he was selected as hooker for Australia against New Zealand in 1967 and represented NSW and Country Firsts from 1965 to '68.

Tiggerlong Gill and Tiggerlong Amy continued an association spanning over three decades for their owners Helen and Michael Finn and Dapto trainer Margaret Keys when they each won at Bulli on Tuesday.

Tiggerlong Gill won over 400m in a handy 22.51 while her litter sister Tiggerlong Amy clocked a smart 26.45 winning over 457m.

Margaret Keys' husband Kevin said: "We have training for the Finns for over 30 years.

"Tiggerlong Gill is a dead-set sprinter, the 400m she won over at Bulli is as far as she wants to go.

"But Tiggerlong Amy's win was no fluke because she recorded 26.30 getting beaten when second at Bulli a week earlier.

"Each of these bitches has just come back from a seasonal condition and it has taken them a while to find form again.''

The Wagga-based Finns raced the former champion Tiggerlong Tonk, who won five group races including the group one Perth Cup and Harrison-Dawson.

When Golden Easter Egg winner Simply Limelight failed to finish at Wentworth Park on April 19 trainer Peter Rodgers feared the dog's career might have come to an end, just 11 days after his win in the group 1 Wenty final.

"It turned out to be nothing serious and Simply Limelight will be back in action in around a fortnight's time,'' Rodgers said.

"Seeing him 100 per cent again is like winning the Golden Easter Egg twice!''
