Draw To Suit Screaming Jet

By Jeff Collerson
He didn't win but Screaming Jet could hardly have been more impressive at his Wentworth Park debut when he chased home Modern Swinger (pictured) on February 15.

In his heat Screaming Jet, who has box three in Saturday night's NSW GBOTA Welcome Final, got within two lengths of Modern Swinger, who had won each of his two previous Wentworth Park outings including a 29.75 maiden final win.

But while Modern Swinger had box one when they last met, he moves to an awkward box eight draw on Saturday while Screaming Jet will again exit box three.

Screaming Jet's trainer Jodie Lord said: "My dog had trialled well at Wentworth Park before the heats and I believe on a good track he is capable of getting down to 29.80 on Saturday night.

"He is still green but is very promising.''

Modern Swinger was the fastest heat winner while Screaming Jet's 30sec flat runner-up figures equalled the second fastest heat time posted by Shanghai Suzie, who led throughout.

Redeem Our Cash is the veteran of the field in Saturday night's first heat of the Ladbrokes Road To The Egg Stakes but she has the draw and Wentworth Park tally to topple her younger rivals.

Redeem Our Cash, who turned three last October, has won nine Wentworth Park races while her seven opponents have won just 10 races at headquarters between them.

Redeem Our Cash has not drawn closer to the fence than box four in her past eight Wentworth Park appearances prompting trainer Michael Smith to comment: "She has been getting some bad boxes at Wenty so I'm pleased to see her finally coming up with box one.

"She won't leave the rails and as long as she doesn't miss the start she should be hard to beat on Saturday.

"When she dwelt slightly at the start and finished fifth from box four at her last Wentworth Park start on February 11 I was a bit disappointed with her run.

"But then she really surprised me at The Gardens last Saturday when she won a 515m Free-For-All in 29.59, fastest time of the meeting.

"I have been training for eight years and Redeem Our Cash is definitely the best I've had, she is my first city class greyhound.''

Trainer Craig Watts by-passed Friday night's heats of the Richmond Derby to take Chasing Fernando to Wentworth Park on Saturday night and the dog has drawn well in box two in heat three of the Ladbrokes Road To The Egg Stakes.

"He has not won  at Wenty since October when he won from box two but Chasing Fernando is going as well as ever,'' Watt said.

"He has simply been racing without luck and while Saturday night's race does not look easy, if he gets the breaks he will be hard to beat.

''I almost nominated him for the Richmond Derby heats but decided to try and win a couple more fifth grades in town with him.''

Chasing Fernando, with seven wins to his credit, is the most successful Wenty Park competitor in Saturday night's lineup.

Frog Stomp has trialled nicely in preparation for his Wentworth Park debut in Saturday night's second Ladbrokes Road To The Egg heat.

Frog Stomp, who has had three wins and two placings from just five starts at Maitland and LADBROKES GARDENS, had his first 'look' at Wentworth Park on Tuesday night.

"I gave him a box-to-box trial and he wenty pretty good,'' trainer Neville Broadbent said.

"He handled the track perfectly but my only concern with his prospects from box six on Saturday is that he does not show a lot of early pace when he leaves the boxes.''

Frog Stomp's toughest rival looms as front runner Loves A Tipple, who has won twice at Wentworth Park and is well suited by her wide box seven draw.
