She Certainly Showed She's Fast

When Mia She's Fast was an impressive first-up Wentworth Park winner on Wednesday night she took her tally to three starts for three wins after leading throughout in a 520m fifth grade.

The 21 month old daughter of Aston Dee Bee and Pixel Pak is trained by Frank Hurst for Wayne Franklin, owner of Micway Transport, and she was a somewhat fortunate acquisition for the trucking boss.

"Barry Ward, who bred Frank Hurst's Million Dollar Chase winner Good Odds Harada along with Jack Smith's champion Feral Franky from his brood bitch Solar Pak, was driving trucks for me,'' Franklin recalled.

"I had not been involved with greyhounds for over a decade but decided to buy a pup Barry had bred from his bitch Pixel Pak, who, like Good Odds Harada and Feral Franky, had been produced by Solar Pak.

"Unfortunately my pup met with an accident and did not get to the racetrack.

"Barry generously offered to replace my puppy with another youngster from Pixel Pak's next litter for no cost.

"So when he made that offer I decided I had better purChase a second youngster from the same litter.

"That's how I came to get Mia She's Fast.''

On Wednesday night Mia She's Fast showed brilliant early pace and despite veering off the track at the first turn, held on gamely to win by a length in the moderate time of 30.59.

The track had been deep harrowed 48 hours earlier so for the early part of Wednesday's meeting the surface was on the slow side.

"Mia She's Fast can definitely go quicker because she trialled 30.19 in her first look at Wenty for me,'' Frank Hurst said.

"And she was probably short of a run on Wednesday because I had intended to trial her after the last race at Wentworth Park on October 8 but when the meeting was washed out the trials were cancelled.''

"He won because he loves his mummy,'' quipped owner Caroline Hughes after Cooper's Hawk broke through for his first Wentworth Park win on Wednesday night.

The Michael Galea-trained youngster had been placed in eight of 14 previous Wentworth Park 520m maiden races but was handled for the first time on Wednesday by Hughes.

"Michael had commitments with other greyhounds racing at Richmond on Wednesday so I had to bring Cooper's Hawk to Wenty,'' Hughes said.

"I've had him since he was a little three months old puppy and I like to think he won tonight because he loves his mummy.

"Cooper's Hawk has always been able to run but on occasion has seemed to be lacking in confidence so I think tonight's all-the-way win in 30.22, on a slow track, will do him the world of good.''

Punter's Bandit makes her eagerly anticipated 600m debut in tonight's GRNSW Middle Distance Series event at Dapto.

Punter's Bandit has had nine Wentworth Park 520m assignments for five wins, two seconds and a third, and posted her personal best figures, a sizzling 29.68, at her most recent appearance on October 5.

Before that race trainer Andy Lord said he planned to step the bitch up in distance after that event, and following her outstanding win he said: "I don't get carried away with too many greyhounds but must admit I am getting very excited about Punter's Bandit's potential as a middle and long distance performer.''
