Emma And Novak Star At Wentworth Park

Outstanding sprinters Good Odds Emma and Zipping Novak not only enhanced their fine Wentworth Park records but produced their personal best 520m times at the track on Saturday night.

The Frank Hurst-trained Good Odds Emma scored her eighth win in 17 Wentworth Park appearances when she led throughout in the top grade sprint of the night, carving out slick early splits of 5.40 and 13.78 and running home in 11.70 before stopping the clock at 29.57.

Zipping Novak made it five from seven at headquarters when he swept down the outside from box eight to lead at the first turn and win a 520m fifth grade in 29.60, producing a second split of 13.75 and running home in 11.82.

After the race trainer Jason Magri said he had no intention of tackling the Million Dollar Chase with Zipping Novak, saying: "He is too young, he only turned two in June.

"Zipping Novak's mission is the Young Star Classic, with heats at Wentworth Park on September 17 and the final, worth $25,000 to the winner, a week later.

"I wasn't sure how he would handle box eight tonight but he began cleanly and crossed to lead at the first bend so I was really pleased with the run.''

Trainer Kerry Drynan is already contemplating a stud career for her exciting bitch Reflections, who led all the way to take out a 520m fifth grade in 29.89, just .08sec outside the quick time she recorded in her July 27 Wentworth Park win.

"Reflections is going to be the next brood bitch for the kennels I run with my mother Doreen,'' Kerry said.

"Reflections' sister Lady Divine beat Reflections twice at Wentworth Park last month but is actually a length slower, although she is still pretty smart.

"Lady Divine is sidelined temporarily with a leg problem.''

Fastest 720m time on Saturday was the slick 42.09 posted by the Tony Godden-trained Trunkey Bill, who led all way to win a fifth grade, his first win in nine WP long distance tests.

After the race Godden said: "The key tonight was Trunkey Bill jumping in front and getting right behind the lure from the start.

"I won over 520m at Wentworth Park with his brother Trunkey John in 29.89 late last month but I've always said Trunky Bill is just as fast.

"The difference is Trunkey John has always been a better race dog, but Trunkey Bill went really well when he got on the bunny tonight.''

Smart Fernando's trainer Greg Sutherland was left scratching his head after his dog notched his fourth Wentworth Park win in 30.05 in a 520m fifth grade on Saturday.

"I was quietly confidence of Smart Fernando winning at Wentworth Park a week ago but while he ran fourth I was very disappointed with his run.

"He had box two in that race and I'm now convinced he is better suited drawn wide, because he was always up there near the lead from box seven tonight.

"Because he disappointed me last week I wasn't going to back him tonight but when Smart Fernando got out to $26 I must admit I had a small wager on him.''
