Mulrine Eyeing A Wanted Win

By Jeff Collerson
An eye condition called pannus ended Miss Wanted's promising Victorian campaign but the greyhound is expected to make a successful NSW return at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Now back with her former trainer Kim Mulrine, at Collector, Miss Wanted has box one in the NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Mulrine's son Patrick explained: "Anthony Azzopardi was training Miss Wanted in Melbourne and he had a huge opinion of her.

"But she suffers from an eye ailment called pannus, and while this can be legally treated with eye drops in NSW, such medication is banned in Victoria.

"So there was no choice but to send Miss Wanted back and I have her papers endorsed that she is permitted to be treated for pannus.

"Miss Wanted trialled very fast at Wentworth Park before she led early when second to Return Mac at Wentworth Park last Saturday.

"Although she has box one on Saturday we would rather see her drawn wide because she does not like being pressured from the outside, she prefers to do the pressuring.

"Having said that I'm told Miss Expeditious, in box two, is a wide runner, so Miss Wanted is probably well positioned.''

Trainer Donna Campbell concedes the 520m fifth grade Ladbroke It! Stakes is a tough assignment but gives her dog Burn a great chance because he has box one.

"Burn is desperate for an inside box and has finally drawn the rails.

"He is no champion and this is a strong fifth grade but Burn is a real little trier and while Wentworth Park is not his favourite track, being in an early race suits him.

"Burn gets very anxious in the kennels so being in race one last week helped him and contesting the second, another early race on Saturday night, will help.''

Foxy Bourbski is unbeaten in two middle distance races since coming to NSW but the former Victorian could be tested by the longer trip of Saturday night's fifth grade 720m event.

Part owner and trainer Ross Davidson said: "Foxy Bourbski has talent but 720m is the question mark.

"I think she will see it out but I'm not sure how quickly she can cover it, we will find out on Saturday night.

"Foxy Bourbski was in the 650m Sale Cup heats in December and she didn't get sighted but she is going better now.

"In her past two runs, when she won over 622m at Richmond and 618m at Bathurst, she got to the line strongly so I'm hopeful.

"Foxy Bourbski is ideally drawn in box one and I expect her to be the pacemaker.''

Hardest to beat looks to be Ziggy Stardust, who is an experienced Wentworth Park 720m performer and who is not badly drawn in box seven.

Ziggy Stardust has had two wins and seven placings from 10 Wentworth Park 720m outings and boasts a slick personal best time of 42.32.
