Victorians Preparing For MDC

By Jeff Collerson
Victorian trainers Brooke and Jamie Ennis, who won Wentworth Park's 2014 Golden Easter Egg with Tonk, have strong contenders for next month's TAB Million Dollar Chase with their dogs Amron Boy and Extreme Force trialling sensationally at headquarters on Saturday night.

Amron Boy, who has won nine of 19 starts, went solo over 520m and recorded a sizzling 29.56, posting second and third splits of 13.79 and 17.87 and running home in 11.69.

Lightly raced kennelmate Extreme Force, who has won three from six appearances, carved out a quick first section of 5.46 before running home in 11.78 and stopping the clock at 29.76.

Each of the Ennis-trained greyhounds has clocked fantastic times at Sandown, with Extreme Force winning there in 28.93 and Amron Boy in 29.07.

The great Aston Rupee holds the Sandown 515m record at 28.79.

Good Odds Cash, a luckless fourth in Simply Limelight's NSW Sprint Championship at Wentworth Park on Thursday night and winner of that race in 2021, will exit box three in the National Sprint Championship on August 27.

Good Odd Cash secured a final berth via wild card status after being listed as the top Championship contestant in Greyhound Clubs Australia's rankings.

After Thursday's race trainer Frank Hurst said: "She went super again from her awkward box eight draw and is going as well as ever.

"Box three in the grand final is better so long as she can miss the dog in box two.''

That greyhound is Dusty Bourbski, a big 35kg dog trained in Victoria by Tom Dailly but raced by NSW western districts breeders Ross Davidson and Jason Lyne.

Dusty Bourbski has the reputation of being a wide runner but won his Victorian Sprint Championship heat and final from box two and has same draw again in the August 27 National title.

Part-owner Ross Davidson said: "I would have preferred Dusty Bourbski in four or five because he tends to run in the middle of the track.

"But if he begins cleanly he won't drift too wide providing there is a dog on his outside holding him in, as while he is inclined to sling out in the straights he cuts down on the corners.''

Peter Mosman Opal winner Embrace, who proved her group one win was no fluke with a personal best, fastest of the night 29.68 performance at Wentworth Park last Thursday, is off to Brisbane for Thursday's heats of the Molly Campbell Silver Dollars at Albion Park.

Embrace was runner-up in a heat of the Young Guns at Ipswich on July 30 but trainer Craig Chappelow believes she will be better suited to Albion Park.

"Main reason I took her to Ipswich was to see how she travelled in the van and she was as quiet as a lamb the whole trip,'' Chappelow said.

"Embrace is third grade at Wenty now so I am looking for age races for her and the Molly Campbell race is a good fit.

"The first turn at Ipswich is very tight and while she hasn't been to Albion Park I think she will be more at home on that track.''
