Fox Poised To Break Wenty Maiden

By Jeff Collerson
Provincial star Black Fox, who has won six of her 10 starts on out-of-town tracks, is poised to score her first Wentworth Park win after drawing box one in Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Black Fox deserves to break through after notching three placings from four Wentworth Park appearances and has an ideal draw on Wednesday.

Not only does she have her favourite rails draw, but she has the "luxury" of having wide runner Killer BOOTS alongside her in box two.

Black Fox chased home the speedy Black Zambora at her most recent Wenty outing on March 16 and was freshened up for Wednesday's race with a second placing up the Richmond 324m straight course last Saturday.

Black Fox showed outstanding early speed to make the pace before being run down by former Victorian Mr America, a Richmond revelation who is undefeated in six races over that 324m straight course since joining Darren Sultana's kennels.

Chasing Fernando defeated recent Wentworth Park winner Go Forward Polly in fastest time of the night over 515m at Gosford on April 5 and is boxed to record his fourth win in 10 Wenty appearances on Wednesday.

Chasing Fernando had box eight when he jumped smartly and carved across to the rails for an all-the-way win at Gosford but trainer Craig Watts is happy with his rails draw this week.

Watts said: "Chasing Fernando runs straight when he leaves the boxes and if he jumps cleanly in this race he has a good chance of holding the lead around the first corner.

"He really likes Wenty Park and has had three wins and three placings from nine starts there despite having a lot of bad draws.

"Early in his career Chasing Fernando was not really strong at the end of 520m but he has been getting a bit stronger lately.

"I haven't trialled him since his Gosford win because he goes best when kept fresh.''

Trunkey Bill posted his fastest Wentworth Park 720m time of 42.65 when he drew box eight on February 26 and trainer Tony Godden is happy seeing his dog drawn wide in Wednesday's Congratulations Gypsy Wyong Stakes, a 720m fifth grade.

"Trunkey Bill has box six and that should suit him because he doesn't like being squashed up on the rails,'' Godden said.

"He is capable of going straight to the front if he puts his head down although this is not an easy race and dogs like Tommy Rees' Paris To Rome, who defeated my dog at Wentworth Park on February 26 and Mark Davidson's Holistic Key, who won over 720m at Wenty last Wednesday, will be hard to toss.''

Godden has a good opinion of Trunkey Bill as he thought enough of the dog to take him to Temora and Dubbo for the Country Classic middle distance series last month and sent him around in heats of the group 1 Association Cup at Wentworth Park on April 2.

Club Model is the only Wentworth Park winner in Wednesday's 11th race, a 520m fifth grade, and she can handle her wide box six draw.

Last Saturday night Club Model exited box one in a far tougher Wentworth Park fifth grade and made the pace to the back straight, before damaging her chances by racing wide and finishing fourth to Miss Hyped Up.

She should only need to step away smartly again to be far harder to run down on Wednesday.
