Keen On The Girls To Win At Wenty

By Jeff Collerson
Kitty Keen and She's Savage, who were placed in heats of the Group 1 Ladbrokes National Futurity at Wentworth Park last month, gets their chance to score their first city wins after dropping back to fifth grade company there on Wednesday night.

The Jason Fletcher-trained Kitty Keen looks set to lead all the way after drawing suitably in box three in the 520m Evans & Son Jewellers Stakes while She's Savage also has the pace to lead throughout from box six in the GEE Preludes Stakes over the same trip.

She's Savage (pictured) posted brilliant first and second splits of 5.39 and 13.70 when she led to the home turn before being run down by Group 1 Dapto Megastar winner Ritza Donna in her Futurity heat on January 14.

By clocking a fast 29.85 at that Wentworth Park debut she qualified for the Futurity final on January 22 and was far from disgraced in beating all but the placegetters in the big race won by Victorian speedster Idolize.

She's Savage's owner-trainer Jessica Savage is happy with her greyhound's box six draw on Wednesday.

"She doesn't mind it out there and has won two of her three starts out of box six,'' Savage said.

"After the Futurity final I gave her a rest but she has been kept in trim by running up the straight track on my friend Brian Smoothy's property.

"She's Savage doesn't go behind the lure there but is slipped with another dog and she goes really hard, so while she is nice and fresh for this race she is definitely fit enough.''

Hardest for She's Savage to beat should be Nowra 365m record holder Horchata, who was a certainty beaten when fourth at Wentworth Park last week.

Horchata bungled the start from box four and was never out of trouble but will need to jump cleanly on Wednesday after drawing awkwardly in box five.

Kitty Keen clocked a sensational opening split of 5.36 in her Futurity heat and after recording 13.87 for her second section, she faded to finish third behind Caroline and Zipping Pearl.

Although her time of 30.42 was not good enough for her to reach the final, it's worth nothing she finished ahead of Good Odds Cash and Fernando's Glory, who had each won four Wentworth Park races.

Catch Me Nero will tackle 720m for the first time in Wednesday night's Congratulations Liz Stakes but trainer Jason Magri is confident his dog will 'get' the distance.

"Of course you never know for certain until you put a dog over 720m but I'm pretty sure Catch Me Nero will see it out,'' Magri said.

"In his favour also is that he is well boxed near the rails in box two.''

Catch Me Nero's toughest opponent could be Lucky Dice, who led all the way from box three at his 720m debut at Wentworth Park last week.

But his trainer Jodie Lord said: "Lucky Dice is desperate for an inside alley so will need a bit of luck from box seven this week.''

Lord has several runners but is quietly confident about the prospects of Clay Made, despite the dog resuming from a lengthy spell.

Clay Made has box two in Wednesday's Good Luck Claire Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and Lord said: "He is well boxed near the fence.

"He has not started since tearing a hip last November but is going well again and is ready to win.''

Clay Made's kennel-mate What About That, who has had two wins and a third from just four starts, all over 440m at Goulburn, has box six in the 520m wentworthpark.com.au Stakes fifth grade.

"What About That is a nice young dog and knows his way around Wenty,'' Lord said.

"He had a post-to-post slip there and went nicely.''
