Brown's Boy Looking To Make It Three From Three

By Peter Davis
Graeme Smith’s talented youngster Brown’s Boy steps out for the third time at Dubbo on Saturday with a perfect record to protect.

The black son of Coolabah-based bitch Expeditiously made his debut at Dawson Park on July 24 and was ultra-impressive in a slick 18.23s win over 318m. Seven days later, he was assigned the six alley in the Ladbrokes Red Dog Final and, while a couple of scratchings reduced the line-up, a gritty 18.36s effort got the job done. The final was a race of substance with Peter Carr’s promising Morales Casey the popular elect in box one, while Bestow Keeping – a 18.37s heat winner – had strong support yet a clean start allowed Brown’s Boy to quickly lead and score by a clear two panels.

While up in grade now, and again stationed in a middle alley (five), Brown’s Boy has the quality to notch the hat-trick.

His mum won on debut at Coonamble in October 2016 and, after a long break, scored at The Gardens over 400m at start two. Start three went unrewarded yet, by start seven Expeditiously had accumulated four wins but, at start 18 (six wins), she suffered a career ending injury and was retired.

Brown’s Boy’s three named siblings (by Aston Dee Bee) have also performed creditably. The quartet have secured 11 wins from just 21 starts with each showing a good turn of foot in short-course events.

The Pam and Paul Braddon-prepared Shelly Swift (box three) and Zola Magic (four) have the talent to test Brown’s Boy yet both are not as reliable at box rise as the Dubbo-based juvenile.

The first of 12 races at Dawson Park gets underway at 5.07pm.
