Young Nebraska Ready To Step Up

By Jeff Collerson
It is rare to see a 22 months old greyhound in a 720m race at Wentworth Park after winning just one middle distance event at Richmond but Zipping Nebraska is expected to be up to the task Tonight.

The John Finn-trained bitch, a litter sister to undefeated boom youngsters Zipping Kansas and Zipping Conway, has box one in race five, a 720m fifth grade.

Finn's wife Minnie is not concerned about Zipping Nebraska's ability to cope with Tonight's assignment, saying: "She needs a six day bike race!

"We have no doubt about her ability to run 720m at Wenty.''

Zipping Nebraska's toughest rival looks to be Hundred Degrees who is well positioned in box two and has clocked a slick 42.30 over the Wentworth Park long-distance trip.

Hundred Degrees has been unplaced in six Wentworth Park 720m outings and trainer Sid Swain said: "If he doesn't win this race I am switching him back to 520m sprints at Wenty.

"He keeps finding trouble in 720m races while in sprints he hasn't got the pace to go with them early and then is able to find the rails and rattle home.''

Masika was a certainty beaten when second, from box eight, at Wentworth Park on Saturday, and has drawn six in Tonight's ninth event, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

The Ray Magri-trained bitch had led throughout from box one to clock 29.79 at Wentworth Park on June 6 but last Saturday was slowly away and severely checked at the first turn.

After being fifth on the back straight Masika flashed home to go under by just over a length behind the wide running Impress Shades in 30.36.

"Although Masika has drawn wide again the box is probably better than it looks on paper,'' Magri said.

"Collecting Model, who has box five, usually shows good early pace and rails while Remas Fernando, in seven, generally runs straight and is not brilliant early.

"If Masika jumps cleanly she should get a reasonably clear run to the first corner.''

Tonight's best value bet should be Silent Enemy, who has recorded 30.07 and 30.08 in finishing second in two Wentworth Park starts and who has drawn well in box two in race two, a 520m fifth grade.

Silent Enemy's job has been made easier by the scratching of early favourite Ultimate Coat, who was flattened at the first turn when in a winning position at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

Best bet looms as the consistent Springview Chief, who has had two wins and four placings from seven Wentworth Park appearances and who looks boxed to lead race four, a 520m fifth grade.

Chase Me Honey was an impressive 30.08 winner at Wentworth Park on Saturday but while she is well positioned in box eight in race four, a 520m fifth grade, she is up against the flying Zipping Kansas, box four.

Zipping Kansas is unbeaten in four starts and Chase Me Honey's trainer Mick Hardman said: "My bitch will need the after burners on to beat that dog.''
