Stewie Quick, But Shayne Quicker

By Jeff Collerson
Zipping Stewie (pictured) has won six of his 12 Wentworth Park races but his trainer Mark Gatt has rated his litter brother and city newcomer Zipping Shayne as a quicker dog on the eve of his Wentworth Park debut.

Zipping Shayne, who opened his account with a best time of the night 30.09 performance at Dapto last Thursday, has box one in tonight's Check In Mandatory Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"Zipping Shayne has a good motor and is actually a bit faster than Zipping Stewie but he has been a slow learner,'' Gatt said.

"While Zipping Stewie has become a really clever race dog, Zipping Shayne is more inclined to do things wrong and is not a good beginner.

"But Zipping Shayne can really run and has had plenty of Wenty experience too, he has trialled real good there.

"Box one should suit him so long as the dog in box two does not chop him off at the start.''

PSYCHO SONIC, who has won five from 15 provincial starts, has a great chance of winning first-up at Wentworth Park after drawing box one in tonight's health.nsw.gov.au Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

PSYCHO SONIC has not started since finishing last in a heat of the Gosford Goldmine on June 15 but had won his two previous outings on the Central Coast course in slick times of 29.47 and 29.64.

"He got taken out of the race at the first turn in his Goldmine heat and after that had a bout of water diabetes,'' trainer Raelee Shearer said.

"But he is well boxed this week and knows his way around Wentworth Park, he has had a few trials there.

"I actually entered him for a race there recently but somehow his nomination was not received so I took him to Wenty for a Tuesday night trial and he went well.''

Shearer also has PSYCHO SONIC's litter sister Dusty Charm, who led early when second at her Wentworth Park debut last September, in box seven in the 520m fifth grade Masks Mandatory Stakes.

"There is nothing between Dusty Charm and PSYCHO SONIC in ability but Dusty Charm is a better beginner.

"I'm not sure how she will handle box seven because in 17 races she has never drawn six, seven or eight.

"But she is going well and has had three wins and two placings from her past five starts at LADBROKES GARDENS and Gosford.''

Dusty Charm's toughest rival is likely to be Masika, who has won from box eight, the draw she has tonight.

Masika clocked a fast 29.79 when she won at WP on June 5 and none of her rivals tonight has got under 30sec at Wentworth Park.

Zipping Ventura, a litter brother to boom speedsters Zipping Conway and Zipping Kansas along with last Wednesday's Wentworth Park winners Zipping Panama and Zipping Alabama, should only need a clear run to take out tonight's NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden, 520m.

The Jason Magri-trained Zipping Ventura was sent out a $2 favourite for his Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday but lost all chance at box rise when he bungled the start before being badly checked.

He came from last to finish fourth and with better box manners and an unimpeded passage from box five, he should break through tonight.
