Awful Getaway Costs Wow Upon His Return

By Jeff Collerson
A shocking getaway ruined any chance Wow had of making a successful return at Wentworth Park on Saturday night with the consistent Bones McCoy nailing the start and leading throughout in the 520m Free-For-All in 29.88.

The Chrystal Hensing-trained Bones McCoy (pictured) took his Wentworth Park tally to four wins from six starts, carving out brilliant splits of 5.45 and 13.76 before winning by three lengths from the fast finishing Royal Emgrand.

The runner-up's performance was arguably the run of the year as he almost fell when Wow veered off the track and crashed into him at the first turn.

Royal Emgrand was a conspicuous last - behind Wow - on the back straight and after being fourth turning for home got up to cut Diamantina Rose out of second prize.

Wow and Coast Model dead-heated for fourth.

Fastest time of the night was posted by Masika, who clocked 29.79 leading throughout in a 520m fifth grade.

Trained by Ray Magri, Masika was bought after being educated for just $3000 by owner Wayne Meilak and two partners.

"She was very immature before she began racing but we realised how much ability she had when she trialled 30sec over 520m at Dapto,'' Meilak said.

"It was just a matter of unlocking that talent and Masika has kept improving.''

Cop Magnet gave five brand new owners victory with not only their first starter but their initial Wentworth Park runner when he led throughout for trainer Andrew Bell in a 520m fifth grade on Saturday.

"To buy Cop Magnet for $30,000 I put together a syndicate of 10, which we call the Chopper Syndicate, and it included five people who had not previously owned a dog,'' Bell said.

"Cop Magnet caught my eye last month and joined my kennels three weeks ago.''

Trainer Barry Gibbons produced an innovative technique which may have assisted Kotoni Banner in jumping brilliantly when she led all the way in a 520m fifth grade on Saturday in a quick 29.89.

"Kotoni Banner has been hit or miss at the start so leading up to this race I covered much of the front of the wire of her kennel at home,'' Gibbons said.

"By doing that she had to crouch down if she wanted to look out to see what was going on and I was hoping getting into that habit might make her do the same when she went into the starting boxes at Wenty.

"I don't know if it worked or not but she got down in the boxes tonight and came out running, clocking 5.46 for the first split, while she has not previously broken 5.50 to that mark.''

FORBES trainer Jack Smith landed a double, winning with the Dubbo carnival's Bill & Peg Miller Memorial winner Miss Ezmae in 29.92 and Midnight Flash, an unplaced finalist in the Brother Fox Cup at Dubbo, in 30.12.

Smith plans to retire Midnight Flash after this campaign as he is keen to mate the impeccably bred bitch with his former champion Feral Franky.
