One Ebby Misses, Another Ebby Sizzles

An out of character slow start ruined crack sprinter Ebby Infrared's chances at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but his less vaunted kennelmate Ebby Jet Power stepped in with a sensational best of the night performance in a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

Just 23 months of age, the Michael Eberand-trained Ebby Jet Power carved out dazzling early splits of 5.40 and 13.76 before stopping the clock at 29.69s.

It was the dog's ninth win in 16 starts but was well inside his previous best Wentworth Park time of 30.12s.

"His fast run tonight did not really surprise me because Ebby Jet Power has always been a quick dog,'' trainer Eberand said.

"And Wentworth Park is his favourite track because I bring him here for a run most Tuesday nights.''

Ebby Infrared's Free-For-All was won by outsider Poacher, who led all the way from box five to notch his 10th Wentworth Park win.

Poacher also recorded his personal best Wentworth Park time of 29.79s, after being runner-up at Richmond in three of his previous five provincial starts.

"He is not a Richmond dog, I reckon he was just glad to be back at Wentworth Park, his favourite course,'' trainer Owen Langley said after Poacher's win.

Another greyhound who relished the return to Wentworth Park was the remarkably versatile Blue Moon Rising, who took his earnings to over $495,000 with a barnstorming finish to land the 520m Masters event in 30.26.

It was Blue Moon Rising's 12th Wentworth Park 520m victory and comes on top of the 11, 720m races the John Finn-trained dog has won at headquarters.

"Blue Moon Rising has not been to Wenty Park for a long while and he was wagging his tail and seemed as pleased as punch when he got here tonight, he loves the place,'' said part-owner Peter McDermott.

"Yet he was only in this 520m race because there was no 720m race available for him.''

John Finn's wife Melinda revealed that Blue Moon Rising's famous litter sister Poco Dorado whelped her first litter, to Collision, a week ago, pointing out: "The first of the 10 puppies born was a big blue dog who looks just like Blue Moon Rising.''

Three owners of Good Odds Crissy landed their first city winner when the Andrew Bell-trained greyhound ran down pacemaker Melissa's Queen to win a 520m fifth grade in 30.64s.

"I bought four pups from the litter whelped by Good Odds Regina in November, 2017, for $20,000, and sold this one, Good Odds Crissy to my sisters and niece,'' Bell said later.

"My sisters Amanda Crane and Kathy Davis, and Kathy's daughter Cloe, own Good Odds Crissy and they will be over the moon to have won a race at Wenty Park.''

Drink Moet went into Saturday's opening race "very fresh'' but that technique employed by trainer Michelle Sultana paid off handsomely when the greyhound began brilliantly and led throughout in a slick 29.99s.

Drink Moet had won her two previous starts, over 520m at Dapto, and according to Sultana the most recent win, on May 28, was a tough effort.

"That was a really hard slog on a sloppy track so after that race I kept Drink Moet really fresh and gave her little work leading up to tonight's race,'' Sultana said.
