A treble and a potential new star for Lord

By Jeff Collerson

JODIE Lord had a night to remember on Saturday landing three winners at Wentworth Park and unveiling Zipping Cia, potentially a group race greyhound.

Electric Silk finally broke for a Wentworth Park win for Lord after being placed in nine of 17 starts there, and she also won with Spookie Vision, but it was Zipping Cia's blistering all-the-way win in 29.55 which was the highlight.

"JODIE only got Zipping Cia from Victoria last month and she had been trialling well before a desperately unlucky sixth at her first Wentworth Park start on November 2,'' Lord's husband Andy said on Saturday.

"In that race Zipping Cia had been a close second on the back straight but just as she was going around the leader, it veered off the track and almost knocked her over.

"That run had to be discarded so we were not totally surprised by how quick she went tonight, because she nailed the start.

"Electric Silk goes much better at Dapto than Wenty, and I think if she has a future at Wentworth Park it will be over 720 metres because we think she will stay.''

Jimmy Casey (pictured) has earned a crack at the group 1 Dapto Megastar following his last-to-first performance to win Saturday's top grade 520m race at Wentworth Park.

The Peter Carr-trained dog weaved through the field to be fourth on the back straight and after being second turning for home, stormed away to win easily from Cawborne Marty, who would have given JODIE Lord four winners for the night.

"Feral Franky's trainer Raymond Smith offered to take Jimmy Casey to Victoria for a Melbourne Cup Prelude at Sandown for me but I am inclined to set the dog for the Dapto Megastar,'' Carr said.

Heats of the Dapto race will be held on December 5 with the $75,000 to the winner final a week later.

Trainer John Finn, recuperating at home after a lengthy stint in hospital, won with Making A Memory at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but more importantly, took out the group 1 Topgun for Stayers at The Meadows with Blue Moon Rising.

Finn's wife Melinda, deputising for her husband at Wentworth Park, said: "My brother Bradley took Blue Moon Rising to Melbourne for us.

"Blue Moon Rising was runner-up to Tornado Tears in the Topgun for Stayers last year and it was a big win by him tonight because he was badly checked in the middle stages.

"John instructed me to give Blue Moon Rising a hard hit-out on Tuesday so I took him to Richmond and gave him a 535m trial and he clocked a smart 30.60.

"His exceptional run home time of 14.80 indicated he was ready to run a big race in Melbourne.''

Blue Moon Rising's win, at start number 101, took his earnings to $430,600.

Scorched, who won six of his first eight starts, bounced back into the winner's circle at WP on Saturday night for the first time since June, thanks to a clean getaway.

Trained by Jason Magri for his brother Ray, Scorched led throughout from box seven to win the opening event in a smart 30.00, scoring by five lengths.

"The dog has been trialling as well as ever but has not been beginning,'' Ray Magri said.

"He got away smartly tonight and that made the difference.

"Scorched is unbeaten in four races from boxes one and two but has not been drawing near the rails and while he drew wide tonight, the good start made the difference to him.

"When Scorched won all those races early in his career he was mostly drawing close to the fence.''
