Bella's Sprite Well Placed On Wednesday

By Jeff Collerson
Bella's Sprite's three wins at Richmond have been over 520m but trainer George Borg believes she will be far better suited by the 622m of Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes.

This mixed stakes is for greyhounds with up to three wins, so Bella's Sprite looks well placed.

And while she finished seventh at her sole 622m test Borg said that failure can be ignored.

"She almost fell early and was tailed off last so that run should be forgotten,'' Borg said.

"When she finished a close second over 520m at Richmond on May 15 she found trouble early from box six and absolutely flew home."

"I have a high opinion of this bitch and my only worry about Wednesday is her box four draw because Bella's Sprite is desperate for an inside box.

"I don't care if she is last early, so long as they leave her alone I think she will win.

"Even though her wins have been over 520m Bella's Sprite has been crying out for a longer distance.''

Another greyhound stepping up in distance on Wednesday night who is expected to go well is Zipping Chaplin, who has box six in the 622m Ladbrokes Communities Stakes, another race for greyhounds with up to three wins.

Zipping Chaplin, who came from a long way back to win his maiden race over 520m at Wentworth Park on May 3, finished strongly to win over 520m at Richmond last Wednesday.

He is trained by Courtney Barnes whose mother-in-law, champion trainer Minnie Finn, said: "It looks like Zipping Chaplin will run 622m for sure, he should go well on Wednesday.''

Finn could land the quinella in the non-graded 622m Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Stakes with Binalong Time in box one and Zipping Vanessa in six.

"Zipping Vanessa has just returned after having a stopper bone injury but she rattled home when fourth over 520m at Wentworth Park last Saturday night,'' Finn said.

"She is going well again but from box one Binalong Time might be the pacemaker and if she is she will be hard to catch.''

Zipping Vanessa has won two of her three starts from box six and has run a sizzling 35.45 for the Richmond 622m trip, while Binalong Time's personal best is 35.77, time that was recorded from box four.

Milly's Song is tipped to lead early after drawing box one in the Steeline Riverstone Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, but trainer Andrew Bell concedes she will need to get away with a good break.

"She is not very strong and I'm worried that if Aussie Flash sits behind her he will be too strong,'' Bell said.

"Milly's Song will want to get wide but although she is probably better suited from an outside draw, she jumps better from an inside box.''

Collins Code was desperately unlucky when fourth, from box seven, over 401m at Richmond on February 5 and resumed at Gosford on May 7 for an impressive win over 388m.

"He has box three on Wednesday and I would rather see him out wide, he wants box eight,'' trainer John Buttsworth said.

"Collins Code is not a brilliant beginner and he got hammered by a wide runner at his last Richmond run, another dog kept running him off the track.

"He is going great again and I am heading to Grafton with him after Wednesday night as I reckon that track will suit him perfectly.

"Collins Code has a good chance on Wednesday but will need luck from his inside alley.''
