Canya Love Me Boxed To Win

By Jeff Collerson
Canya Love Me has been costly to Wentworth Park punters but is boxed to redeem herself in Saturday night's Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

After being sent out a $1.45 favourite Canya Love Me finished fourth on debut at Wentworth Park, before winning there in a slick 29.67 on October 20 and then being placed as a $1.45 and a $1.90 hotpot.

Canya Love Me returned from a five weeks' break to win over 320m at Richmond on January 21 in a blistering 18.07 and a week later scored over 401m there in a smart 22.65.

On Wentworth Park times Canya Love Me has .43sec on her nearest rival on Saturday, and that's the equivalent of more than six lengths, which should ensure she only needs to begin cleanly to lead all the way.

Midnight Spritz was sidelined with a sore shoulder from October 7 until late last month but Andy Lord, whose wife Jodie trains the greyhound, has declared her ready to win Saturday night's Ladbrokes Sports Bar Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Midnight Spritz resumed from her spell to finish second over 440m at Goulburn on January 26 before finishing fourth over 520m at Dapto on February 1.

At Dapto she was sent out a raging hot $1.20 favourite but after disputing the early lead she was "sandwiched" between two rivals going through the pen and was severely checked.

Andy Lord said: "Midnight Spritz is trialling well and is going just about as good as she was when she ran 29.75 at Wentworth Park last September.''

There is not a better-drawn runner at Wentworth Park on Saturday than Jake Peralta, who has box one in the 520m fifth grade Ladbrokes Hub Final.

Jake Peralta qualified by finishing third from box seven in Fire Lighter's 29.87 heat but is an enthusiastic railer and has recorded a win, six seconds and two thirds from 13 Wentworth Park appearances.

Fire Lighter led all the way but raced wide from box six in his heat so is likely to give Jake Peralta plenty of room in the charge from the boxes to the first turn.

Jake Peralta's trainer Mick Clayton said: "He is owned by Punters HQ Syndicate and their manager Joe Lannutti reckons they would love to have another five dogs like him.

"That's because Jake Peralta picks up a cheque nearly every time he goes around.

"He is ideally boxed on Saturday and is a good, honest dog who deserves to win a decent race.''

Clayton also has Bandit Trixie, a relatively new addition to his kennels, in box seven in the Khy's 21st Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"She finished seventh from box two last week at Wentworth Park but Bandit Trixie wanted to get up the track and kept colliding with Comet A Cost, who was outside her and was keen to find the fence.

"Box seven should suit her on Saturday and I think she is capable of being the pacemaker and running around 30sec flat with a clear run.''

Chester's Light, who won over 472m at Bulli in a sizzling 26.30 at his latest start on February 6, will be at Wentworth Park for the second time when he takes on Midnight Sprite in Saturday's Ladbrokes Sports Bar Stakes.

Trainer Lakis Michael said: "Chester's Light went terrific at Bulli but that is a one-turn track and I want to get him used to going around two bends at places like Wentworth Park.

"I trialled him a couple of times at Wenty before he finished sixth to Zipping Caleb last September but he has improved heaps since then.

"Although he uses a bit of the track I don't think box eight will help him, I would have preferred him boxed inside on Saturday.

"My guess is he is capable of clocking around 30.20 at Wenty at this stage.''
