Len Me Dad Going For Fifth Wenty Win

By Jeff Collerson
Maitland Gold Cup winner Len Me Dad looked back to his best despite being run down by One Hot Bandit at Wentworth Park last Thursday and is drawn to notch his fifth win at headquarters on Wednesday night.

Len Me Dad has box one in the 520m Ladbrokes Switch Stakes, and is boxed to make the pace again.

Last week he jumped smartly from box one and after posting brilliant early splits of 5.44 and 13.84 he was joined near the home bend by One Hot Bandit and beaten just over a length.

But One Hot Bandit is a noted powerful finisher and his conquest of Len Me Dad took his Wentworth Park record to eight wins from 11 starts.

When Len Me Dad stepped out last week he was having his first 520m test since May 27, as he had been campaigning over 350m and 440m at Goulburn.

Len Me Dad boasts a personal best Wentworth Park time of 29.47, which is .29sec faster than the quickest Wenty figures of We Don't Share, his nearest rival on Wednesday.

Two greyhounds who have recently competed in group race finals at Wentworth Park but drop in grade on Wednesday night are Vic Peters Classic contestant Calypso Rogue and Kingsbrae Demon, who qualified for last Thursday's NSW National Sprint Championship.

Calypso Rogue has box seven in the fifth grade Ladbroke It! Stakes while Kingsbrae Demon has the same draw in the fifth grade NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes.

Calypso Rogue, who finished down the course in Zipping Remus' race record Vic Peters final, had won his heat from box seven in a slick 29.93 and will wear the black rug on Wednesday.

His trainer Harry Norman said: "He is well drawn this week and looks to have a lot in his favour.

"Charlm Outlaw, who has box eight, usually gets wide and my dog loves an outside alley.

"At his last Wentworth Park start when he finished fifth on July 29 Calypso Rogue wasn't happy in box one and there was nothing wrong with his run when he finished third at Maitland at his last circle race on August 7.

"He almost fell soon after the start at Maitland, his head was about a foot off the ground and he was lucky to stay on his feet.''

Kingsbrae Demon led all the way in a smart 29.97 to win a fifth grade at his Wentworth Park debut from box one before leading to the home turn when third in a heat of the NSW Sprint Championship behind Zipping Remus on August 5.

In last Thursday night's final Kingsbrae Demon dwelt at the start but after rushing into third spot on the back straight faded to finish fifth.

Kingsbrae Demon's trainer Michelle Frankland-Shambler said: "Because he uses a bit of the track he probably looks well boxed on Wednesday but my only concern is that he began fast in his two Wentworth Park races from inside boxes but did not get away well when he drew wide last Thursday.

"He has had plenty of Wentworth Park experience now because he had two trials before he raced there and the National Championship was a hard task for him at this stage of his career.''

Luke Azzopardi considers Emgrand Express has a perfect eight draw in Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Sports Bar Stakes but the trainer believes his dog could get tired near the finish.

"He is boxed terrific but he could be a run short at the end of 520m,'' Azzopardi said.

"I trialled him up the straight at Richmond on Saturday and he went really well but he is stepping up in distance on Wednesday night.''

Emgrand Express had a wide draw, box seven, when he led all the way in 30.27 at Wentworth Park on June 17.
