Dinali Chasing First Wenty Win

By Jeff Collerson
Dinali Keroma has not raced for six weeks but is trialling well enough to enhance his already impressive strike rate when he makes his Wentworth Park debut on Wednesday night.

A winner of three from just four starts, all at Gosford, Dinali Keroma has box three in the Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

After winning twice over 388m at Gosford, Dinali Keroma stepped up to 515m there and led throughout from box one in a handy 29.69 on June 6.

Owner Ray Pitstock said: "My wife Susan, who trains Dinali Keroma, wasn't happy with how he went that night because he wanted to get off the track and then didn't stretch out in the run home like he should have.

"We later discovered he had a sore shoulder so we gave him a break and brought him back for a 520m trial at Wentworth Park recently.

"Dinali Keroma broke the 30sec barrier in that trial so he should be ready to go on Wednesday night.''

Spring Gold made the pace before finishing second at her Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday night and should strip fitter for this week's Ladbrokes Punter Assist Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Last week Spring Gold, who had recorded five wins and two second placings from seven provincial short course appearances, began smartly from box six but after leading to the home bend was overtaken and beaten just under two lengths by Bella Una in 30.24.

"Spring Gold's first split last Wednesday of 5.42 was pleasing but she is a lot better than that third sectional time of 18.20 indicates,'' trainer Scott Board said.

"She didn't handle the track too well going through the first bend and the catching pen but there was no excuse for that because she had been around Wenty a couple of times as a puppy and had a recent post-to-post hit-out there.

"But last week's race was the first time Spring Gold had been over 520m so hopefully the run will improve her and she will keep getting stronger.

"I guess it was no disgrace getting run down by Bella Una because she that greyhound had finished second in the Group One Peter Mosman Opal at Wentworth Park at her previous start.''

Little Zeroed In, who has been runner-up in each of her two Wentworth Park races, could break through from her suitable box seven draw in Wednesday night's siresonice.com.au Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

After chasing That's Lil Harry all the way in a fifth grade in 30.04 on July 8 Zeroed In raced wide when runner-up from start to finish behind Whirlwind Ethics in a slick 29.99 at headquarters last Saturday.

Trainer Patricia Chaker said: "When she gets down in the starting boxes correctly Zeroed In can begin fast.

"Before she had her first race at Wentworth Park I had given Zeroed In a box-to-box trial there and she went quick early in that hit-out.

"She is only a little 25kg bitch and has taken a bit of time to settle into my kennels but is going well now and is a 'get out and go' type.''

Quick To Judge was beaten just over four lengths into fourth place in a 520m maiden at Wentworth Park last Wednesday night but was unlucky not to finish much closer and could atone in this Wednesday's NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden, 520m.

Last week Quick To Judge, trained by Mark Davidson, was a close second behind odds-on favourite Zipping Khan going around the first turn but lost all chance when his hotpot rival veered wide and bumped him off balance.

After rallying to be third on the back straight Quick To Judge faded in the run home with the early interference taking its toll.

Wednesday night's best bet should be Spread The Load, who has had a win and two placings from six Wentworth Park 720m appearances and will exit box five in the fifth grade Ladbrokes Sports Bar Open Stakes over that trip.

Spread The Load was sent out a $2.10 favourite when an unlucky third, beaten less than a length, in a similar race at Wentworth Park on July 5 before producing the best run of her career when third over 600m at Dapto last Thursday night.

In that race Spread The Load was last, 10 lengths behind the leader, with 300m to go, before flashed home down the outside to snare the minor placing.
