No Pearl This Week For Reflections

By Jeff Collerson
Reflections ran the race of her life when third to the great She's A Pearl in last week's group 1 Ladbrokes Paws Of Thunder at Wentworth Park and from box one in a third and fourth grade there on Saturday night appeals as the best bet of the meeting.

Kerry Drynan's bonny bitch had box six when she outsped She's A Pearl to the first turn in the Paws final before hanging on tenaciously to finish third, just under four lengths behind the champion.

Reflections has won one of her two previous assignments from box one and goes into Saturday night's Sponsor A Race @ Wenty Stakes with six wins and nine placings from 19 outings at headquarters.

Saturday night's best value bet should be Tommy Kade, who has box six in the Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Tommy Kade has won each of his two races, both at Wentworth Park, and while he has not raced for three weeks trainer Jodie Lord revealed there has been nothing amiss with her promising youngster.

"I simply took him away from Wenty for a while and gave him a few trials on other tracks,'' Lord said.

"He is 100 per cent ready for Saturday night.''

Although Tommy Kade's two Wentworth Park wins were from box three, the dog raced wide on each occasion so is probably better positioned out in box six on Saturday.

Tommy Kade's kennelmate Cartel Model had box one when he scored in a slick 29.94 at Wentworth Park on January 18 but trainer Lord remains upbeat about the dog's prospects in Saturday's Ladbrokes Switch Dogs Only Final, 520m.

Cartel Model was fastest qualifier from the January 18 heats and Lord said: "He will handle being out in box six, no trouble at all.

"In fact I think he likes being drawn off the track.

"I also have Max Rocha in box five in this final and while his three starts at Wentworth Park have resulted in only two placings, he has more ability than that record would suggest.

"Max Rocha's problem is he has not been coming out cleanly but he is still learning and certainly has the talent to win races in town.''

Sydney trainer David Smith ventured to Temora on Tuesday and won with Oreo Ethics in near track record time and with Got The Feature who also posted quick figures for the 457m trip there.

On Saturday Smith has Oreo Ethics and Tarawi Rocky, a luckless fourth at Temora, in the 520m fifth grade Bobby Graham Memorial, Stunning Chick in the NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes 520m grade five and Got The Feature in race 11, the 520m fifth grade wentworthpark.com.au Stakes.

"I rank Oreo Ethics as my best chance because while he has always gone well on big tracks like Temora, he is learning to go around two turns better than he did in the past,'' Smith said.

"He moves off the track a bit but so long as there are no dogs crowding him on his outside he will handle box two okay.

"His kennelmate Rocky">Tarawi Rocky">Rocky corners better than Oreo Ethics but is not as fast, if I trialled them together Oreo Ethics would beat Rocky every time.

"Stunning Chick is only average but she seems to be in a quiet race and she does run on solidly.

"Got The Feature is down in class and has been racing in tougher company so with his ability to get away cleanly he looks well suited in box one.''
