Kennelmates Will Be Fine Stepping Up In Distance

By Jeff Collerson
Promising kennelmates Pink Tickles and Gypsy Flyer have each won their past four races over 400m but while they are stepping up to 520m at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night their trainer Sharon Grey is confident the extra distance won't be a problem.

Gypsy Flyer has box two in race six, a fifth grade, while her litter sister Pink Tickles will exit box six in the following, slightly harder grade five event.

"I took them down to Wenty for a post-to-post slip and they went really well,'' Grey said.

"Then they came back for a trial out of the 520m boxes and Pink Tickles beat Gypsy Flyer by a length in 30.40.

"That was their first test over that distance and it satisfied me they can run the journey.

"Pink Tickles has always been slightly quicker than her sister but while they are never going to be group race greyhounds they are going to be competitive in town.

"I'm excited because they are from the first litter whelped by my bitch Tweety, who won 13 mostly middle and long distance races but who was inclined to have a mind of her own on the racetrack.''

When Hurricane's Fury last started from box one he came from third on the back straight to win easily over 520m at Albion Park in September.

Now trained on the central coast by Joe McFadyen, Hurricane's Fury is showing good early pace these days and is expected to make full use of his rails draw on Wednesday night's third event, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

Hurricane's Fury notched his third Wentworth Park placing in four appearances last Wednesday when he led to the home bend before being run down and beaten a length by the far more experienced Sir Banjo.

While trainer McFadyen will also be represented by the talented Wentworth Park winner Belmont Bullet (pictured) in box eight in Wednesday night's race, the draw favours Hurricane's Fury.

Zipping Muriel, a luckless third when sent out a $1.70 favourite at Wentworth Park last Saturday night, should bounce back into the winner's circle after drawing well in box seven in Wednesday's seventh event, a 520m fifth grade.

The John Finn-trained bitch displayed her liking for an outside draw when she led throughout from box eight to win a 520m maiden heat at Wentworth Park in a slick 29.97 on January 11.

Last Saturday Zipping Muriel drew box two and was badly checked at the start before running home gamely to finish third, four lengths behind her kennelmate Zipping Jada.

Kiss My Kaos, who has box two in Wednesday night's ninth event, was desperately unlucky when down the course at her Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday.

Trained at Darawank, near Forster, by Craig Last, Kiss My Kaos was skittled when charging towards the lead at the first turn.

"Yeah, she got pole-axed last week so hopefully she'll have better luck this time,'' Last said.

"Before last Wednesday's race Kiss My Kaos had won over 384m in the best time of the day at successive Wauchope meetings and in one of her wins ran home in 12.33, which is flying.

"I also have her litter brother Gary The Goat in box two in race five on Wednesday and he is as quick as her, there is nothing between them.

"Gary The Goat is a 29.50 dog around The Gardens which shows he has the ability to win in town.''
