Piper To lead Rivals On A Merry Dance

By Jeff Collerson
Winlock Piper has won twice as many Wentworth Park races as any of his rivals on Wednesday and an ideal draw makes him stand out as the bet of the night.

"He has box eight and he likes being out there, the draw is perfect,'' trainer Andy Lord said.

Winlock Piper has won four races at Wentworth Park, clocking 30.07 from box four, 29.99 from seven, 29.95 while wearing the red rug and then posting his personal best figures of 29.82 in scoring from box three on November 2.

He will carry the pink jacket in Wednesday night's Congratulations Cawbourne Magic Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade honouring Saturday's Ladbrokes Christmas Cheer win by another of the Lord-trained team.

His five rivals have won just six Wentworth Park races between them and none has broken the 30sec barrier at headquarters, with Runway Messi's 30.11, recorded 11 months ago, the next best of the Lord-trained dog's opponents.

Lord's wife JODIE will be chasing her first win with Zipper Patrol, a new addition to their kennels, when that dog exits box eight in race five, a 520m fifth grade.

Zipping Patrol overcame a slow start to win first-up at WP for trainer Robert Howard on November 19, clocking the slow time of 30.51.

After that win the dog was transferred to JODIE Lord and last Wednesday Zipper Patrol made the pace before weakening to finish second, beaten five lengths, by the Robert Howard-trained Tiny Hands John.

The winner carved out the 520m in a flying 29.67, fastest time of the night, so Zipper Patrol's 30.08 was a sharp improvement on the figures he posted at his previous Wentworth Park outing.

"I was a bit disappointed with Zipper Patrol's run last week but he has plenty of ability and I'm confident he will come good,'' JODIE Lord said.

Cawbourne Magic's baby half brother Cawbourne Domino will make his first appearance in Wednesday night's 520m GBOTA Welcome Maiden.

A 20 month old son of Sennachie and Cawbourne Magic's dam Cawbourne Ruby, Cawbourne Domino has inherited plenty of the family ability according to JODIE Lord.

"He goes really good,'' the trainer said.

But Cawbourne Domino, who has box two, will face stern opposition from the Daniel Gatt-trained siblings Leg Speed and Warm Regards, who have drawn boxes one and five respectively.

Leg Speed was a certainty beaten when second to Rockstar Atonia at his first start last Wednesday at Wentworth Park, when he was skittled by a wide runner at the first turn.

Warm Regards made her debut in the same race and also had no luck, rattling home to finish fourth.

"I'm not sure what Leg Speed will do from box one, he might want to get a bit wide, but I'm not complaining about getting the rails alley,'' trainer Daniel Gatt said.

"There is nothing between Leg Speed and his sister Warm Regards, although she looks to be a bit stronger at the finish of their trials.''

Trainer Daniel Gatt is especially upbeat about the prospects of Double Baroque, who has box eight in Wednesday's Radford & Major Electrical Stakes, a 520m fiftrh grade.

Double Baroque is the most accomplished WP performer in the race, boasting two wins and three placings from nine appearances, and Gatt is delighted to see him in box eight.

"Because he is a wide runner he is ideally positioned and as he tends to be slow early, the small field of six should suit him perfectly.''
