Fahey's Magic To Resume On Saturday

By Jeff Collerson
Promising sprinter Fahey's Magic resumes after six weeks on the sidelines in Saturday's NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes and while she is trialling well she could lack "match fitness" for the 520m fifth grade.

That's the verdict from John Carruthers, whose wife Jane has steered Fahey's Magic to seven wins from 12 starts.

Their greyhound has not raced since leading all the way in a slick 29.86 at Wentworth Park on October 19.

"Another dog collected Fahey's Magic when she was in the catching pen after the race so she finished up pretty sore,'' sad John Carruthers.

"We have given her a couple of runs up the straight at Appin and she went good in a 366m hit-out there last Saturday.

"But she could still be in need of a hard 520m run.''

Wing Chun Girl was unplaced at her first six Wentworth Park starts but her past five appearances have yielded a win and two placings and trainer Carole Eaton considers her well positioned in box seven in the Wentworth Park Christmas Buffet Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"It has taken Wing Chun Girl a while to get used to Wenty but now I think she is going as well there as she goes at The Gardens and Gosford,'' Eaton said.

"Box seven should suit her because she won so well from box eight at Gosford earlier this month.''

Eaton could win a double as her bitch Princess Audrey is not without a chance in the Greyhounds As Pets Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Princess Audrey has box five but has the early pace to offset her "squeeze" draw.

Carole Eaton said: "Princess Audrey is not as quick as Wing Chun Girl but is improving and she is always a hope because of her good early speed.

"I was particularly happy with her last run at Wentworth Park, when she finished third to Wyndra All Class and Unlike You last Saturday night.''

Trainer Geoff "Choc" Curtale said he is "quietly confident" about Falcon Fly's prospects of completing a Wentworth Park hat-trick in Saturday's Farrell's Biscuits @ GBOTA Track Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

Falcon Fly has "come out running" from box five to lead throughout at his past two Wentworth Park appearances, clocking a personal best 29.76 on November 12 before recording a slick 29.82 last Saturday night.

"He has box seven on Saturday and he is out where he wants to be,'' Curtale said.

"Falcon Fly likes boxes five, six and seven and I wouldn't mind on Saturday if Light And Lily, who has box six, jumped fast and reproduced the 5.38 first split she posted when she won at Wentworth Park on November 5.

"Light And Lily goes to the fence and if she comes out quick she could give Falcon Fly a good cart across in the run to the first turn.''

Outside World is the most frustrating greyhound in Chris Carl's kennels but can put a smile on her trainer's face by taking out Saturday night's 520m Masters Stakes.

Carl believes Outside World is suitably drawn in box seven and said: "She is flying at the moment but hasn't been coming out of the boxes.

"She was badly away again last Saturday when she finished second, beaten less than five lengths by Jabeni who clocked 29.76, fastest time of the night.

"How unlucky can you be, being in a Masters race and running into a dog posting quickest time of the meeting, and not only that, Jabeni, who is so strong, even jumped straight to the front.

"Outside World is eligible for a fifth grade at Wentworth Park on Saturdays and I was contemplating skipping the Masters race this week and nominating her for a low grade event.

"But when Jabeni won at Gosford on Tuesday I thought it unlikely he would be entered for Wenty this week so I decided to give Outside World another crack at a Masters race.''
