Persuasive Case For First Up Win

By Jeff Collerson
Persuasive has had just three starts at Wentworth Park this year and has not raced there since April but he has trialled brilliantly on the eve of his return to headquarters on Saturday night.

Persuasive, who has box three in the Ladbrokes Switch Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, "flew" in a post-to-post hand-slip, stopping the clock at 24.02sec.

The dog had been placed in two Bulli 400m races since resuming from a three month spell in September and trainer Jason Magri said: "That hand-slip showed me Persuasive was ready to go to Wenty again.

"Saturday's race looks winnable for him and while he is not badly boxed, I do think he goes a bit better from an outside draw.''

Magri-trained greyhounds Unlike You and Zipping Novak will carry favourite backers' hopes in Saturday's second and sixth races.

Unlike You, chasing his third straight Wenty win, has box one in the winningedgeinvestments.com Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, while Zipping Novak, who has won five of 11 Wentworth Park appearances, will exit box two in the Good Odds Harada Heats Stakes, another fifth grade over 520m.

Early in his career Unlike You, who boasts a 50 per cent winning strike rate, wanted to run wide but the dog has become far more tractable in recent races.

"He will handle box one so long as other dogs don't come down on top of him in the run to the first turn,'' Magri said.

"Zipping Novak has become a little the opposite as when he started racing he was desperate for an inside box.

"But lately he seems to prefer going around the outside of his opponents when he makes his runs.''

Mighty midget Red Hot Frankie has not raced for three weeks but trainer Jack Smith said the his sub-24kg pocket rocket will be at her best for Saturday's Where Else But Wenty? Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"Since she finished third at Wentworth Park on September 24 I have nominated her for a couple of country races but while none were available Red Hot Frankie has had plenty of work.

"She is ready to get out and go and run her 29.80 on Saturday and they will have to catch her.''

Smith also has Palawa King chasing his first Wentworth Park success in Saturday night's #getyourgreyhoundon Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Palawa King has been placed just once in four visits to Wentworth Park but Smith is confident the dog is capable of winning in town.

"He will jag one at Wenty eventually because he has plenty of ability,'' Smith said.

"But unlike Red Hot Frankie, who is a good beginner, Palawa King is a slow starter.

"He is capable of winning Saturday's race but with Palawa King you are riding on luck in running.''

Hottest favourites on Saturday are likely to be champion stayer Super Estrella, who has box one in the 720m Ladbroke It! Free-For-All, and Canya Smoke Them, who will wear the red rug in the 520m Ladbrokes Bet Ticker fifth grade.

Super Estrella has won a dozen long-distance races at Wentworth Park while among her five rivals, only Trunkey Bill has been successful at headquarters, winning twice over the 720m trip.

Canya Smoke Them, from the powerful Andy Lord kennel, has had five starts at Wentworth Park for three wins and two placings and has trialled brilliantly since winning from box eight there on October 5.

Owner Mark Duclos said: "Andy is really happy with him and said this week Canya Smoke Them beat his kennelmate Bandit Jane in a trial up the straight.''

That hit-out is a good pointer to Saturday's race as Bandit Jane is far more experienced and has won eight from 22 races.
