Short Odds For Another Super Greyhound

By Jeff Collerson
Zipping Orlando will be sent out at "Super Estrella" odds in his bid to take his record to six wins from six starts when he exits box one at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

Zipping Orlando will wear the red rug in the winningedgeinvestments.com Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and goes into the race boasting a scorching personal best time of 29.53, far quicker than any of his seven rivals.

Super Estrella was a $1.22 favourite when she smashed the Wentworth Park 720m record last Saturday night and Zipping Orlando will be at a similar quote following his barnstorming win last Wednesday when he came from a distant sixth on the back straight to win running away.

"Gee, he can draw a box can't he?'' said Minnie Finn, wife of Zipping Orlando's trainer John Finn said.

"Zipping Orlando's mission is the Young Star series beginning at Wentworth Park on September 17 but later on he might be best suited over a middle or long distance.''

The Finns have a strong hand in race four, another 520m fifth grade, with Kip Keeping in box six and Zipping Karen in eight while their bitch Zipping Sabrina has drawn the rails in the other 520m fifth grade, race 10.

Minnie Finn said: "Kip Keeping is faster than Zipping Karen but it depends on how well he gets out of the boxes.''

Zipping Karen led throughout from box eight in a nippy 29.92 at Wentworth Park last Wednesday but before the opening race her kennelmate Kip Keeping clocked 29.78 winning a three dog stewards' trial.

Kip Keeping had to be cleared by stewards after turning in the starting box at his previous appearance but last week recorded an average first split of 5.54 before zooming along in 13.88 to the second mark and running home in a strong 11.81.

"Zipping Sabrina has won her past two Wenty races from boxes one and two and has drawn the inside again,'' Minnie Finn said.

"But the rails alley does not really suit her because she steps to the right on the first turn.''

Jack Smith - who trained Feral Franky - has Mojave Ghost, an unraced son of that dog, in box seven in Wednesday's NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden over 520m.

"Mojave Ghost has trialled 30.20 at Wenty but is slow early and I'm not sure how he will handle being in a full field,'' Smith said.

Smith is more confident about his other Feral Franky offspring, Irinka Megan (box two, race five) and Red Hot Frankie (box three, race six).

"Irinka Megan only trialled 30.20 before her race debut at Wentworth Park last Wednesday when she led all the way in 30.03 so that was encouraging because she found a bit,'' Smith said.

"Red Hot Frankie is only tiny, just over 23kg, but she has pinged the lids to win each of her Wenty races in 29.78 and 29.88 so hopefully she will do the same again on Wednesday.''

Smith has a high opinion of another Feral Franky youngster Palawa King, who has box three in race 10, but said: "He has a big motor but never comes out of the boxes smartly.

"Palawa King is well drawn near the fence in box three on Wednesday so I'm hoping he can be close enough to take a rails’ run at the first turn.

"There should be room there as uncle John's greyhound Zipping Sabrina (Smith is the nephew of her trainer John Finn) gets wide on the bend.''
