Aqua Tiger Drawn For More Improvement

By Jeff Collerson
Aqua Tiger clocked 30.36 when third at his Wentworth Park debut before trimming those figures to 30.08 in his win last Wednesday and trainer Michael Clayton believes he can improve even further on Wednesday night.

Aqua Tiger had box three when he headed Such A Shame at the half-way mark before coming away to score by four lengths last week and will exit box two in Wednesday's Live & Free @ thedogs.com.au Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"He is well drawn because he is such a good railer,'' his trainer said.

"And I think he can find a bit on the clock this week because when he won over 520m last Wednesday Aqua Tiger was going beyond 350m for only the second time in his life.''

Andy Lord has six outstanding prospects competing at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night but the Gunning-based trainer plumps for Canya Smoke Them, winner of the Million Dollar Chase Maiden Final at Wentworth Park on September 24, as top pick.

Canya Smoke Them recorded a brilliant personal best Wentworth Park time of 29.67 when he won the $15,000 Maiden Final and although he moves from box one in that race to box eight in Wednesday's winningedgeinvestments.com Stakes, Lord is confident the shift won't worry the dog.

"He handles a wide draw as well as he does an inside alley,'' Lord said.

Punter's Bandit will line up for her fifth Wentworth Park outing in 19 days in Wednesday's wentworthpark.com.au Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, but Lord said: "She will cope with having another race with no trouble at all.

"Punter's Bandit's future is as a stayer and I intend sending her over 600m at Dapto shortly.

"So I am trying to do the right thing by her owners and getting her to earn maximum prizemoney in low grade 520m races before she begins her career as a middle and long distance greyhound.''

Lord's duo, litter brother and sister Winlock Piper and Winlock All Over, tend to run in the centre of the track so are each well positioned in box seven in Wednesday night's 520m Ladbroke It! Stakes and Ladbrokes Switch Stakes respectively.

Winlock Piper led to the home turn when run down and beaten four lengths by Jason Magri's up-and-coming star Unlike You over 520m at Wentworth Park on Saturday while Winlock All Over raced wide when she led throughout from box three to win on debut at headquarters on September 17.

Lord's other starters on Wednesday are Sir Banjo, who has box seven in the Ladbrokes Mates Mode Stakes and Coast Model, drawn in the same box in the Where Else But Wenty? Free-For-All.

"Coast Model is getting towards the end of her career and probably needs to get to the front early,'' Lord said.

"Sir Banjo is going to be all right but he is still learning how to handle Wenty and is inclined to take the wrong options in his races.''

Coast Model's toughest rival could be Special Blend, although trainer Ashley Dwyer concedes the dog was disappointing when fifth to Return Mac at Wentworth Park last Wednesday.

"There was nothing wrong with him after the race but I must admit I couldn't find any excuse for his unplaced run,'' Dwyer said.

"He gets his chance to bounce back on Wednesday because he will be suited by the small field of six and while he has box four he will relish having an empty box on his left.''
