Bandit Ned On Track For Successful Track Return

By Jeff Collerson
Last year's group 1 Vic Peters Classic winner Bandit Ned has not raced since March but is trialling "as well as ever" in preparation for his return in Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Free-For-All at Wentworth Park.

Bandit Ned, who has won eight from 13 Wentworth Park outings, faces five rivals who between them have won just twice at headquarters.

Trainer Jodie Lord said: "Bandit Ned hasn't raced for over two months but the way he has been trialling he is going as well as he has ever gone.

"He has box two and while I prefer him positioned out wide, he has an empty box on his outside so that should enable him to get a clear run to the first turn.''

Lord has three of the six starters in Wednesday's eighth race, a 520m fourth and fifth grade, comprising the up-and-coming Zambora Charlie (box four), prolific Wentworth Park winner Doonan (box seven) and What About That, ideally placed in box eight.

"I think Doonan might be too good for them because he is down in class and is becoming a real race dog,'' Lord said.

"Each of his 14 starts has been at Wenty and he has won seven of them so I think he will win.''

Lord said she also likes the prospects of Bandit Jane, who has drawn the rails in race nine, a 520m fifth grade.

"She has had two wins and a third from five starts at Wentworth Park but has not had box one in any of those races, and she has drawn the rails on Wednesday which is where she wants to be,'' Lord said.

Grevell Creed was desperately unlucky when third, from box seven, at Wentworth Park last Wednesday and gets his chance despite drawing box four in this week's Happy 21st Bailey Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Trainer Paul Steedman said: "Grevell Creed is a bit slow early and because of that he is always likely to find trouble at the first turn.

"But he is going well and his run last week was good.''

Bull Key raced wide from box one when third at his Wentworth Park debut last week and looks well positioned in eight in Wednesday's Linda Bate's Birthday Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Bull Key was a certainty beaten when second, from box eight, at LADBROKES GARDENS on May 21 and trainer Michelle Frankland-Shambler said: "He can go around dogs but he will rail if necessary.

"Bull Key's problem is that when he has a couple of dogs just in front of him he doesn't seem to know what to do and ends up clipping their heels.

"He had a few trials at Wenty before his first race there last week so he knows his way around the track.''

Fantastic Luna won in smart time over 600m at Dapto on Thursday despite box eight, not thanks to her wide draw.

She was badly hampered attempting to reach the rails and produced an outstanding performance to win by five lengths.

Fantastic Luna, who is ideally placed in box one in Wednesday's final race, a 520m fifth grade, appeals as the meeting's best bet.

She clocked 29.87 from box four at Wentworth Park on March 12 while none of her five opponents has gone quicker than 30.04 at the track.
