Set For An Explosive Saturday Night

By Jeff Collerson
Explosive Venom has been unplaced in each of four Wentworth Park appearances but trainer Daniel Flanagan is confident she can turn that record around by winning there on Saturday night.

Explosive Venom, who has been tackling much tougher company in recent weeks, has box two in the Congratulations Bob Delaney Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"She is well drawn near the fence and to top her off for Saturday I gave Explosive Venom a short slip at Maitland on Wednesday and she went faster than she has ever gone,'' Flanagan said.

"In the final of The Brother Fox at Dubbo last Saturday Explosive Venom began too well from box four and got trapped four wide before finishing a luckless sixth.

"But in her heat a week earlier she had given Fantastic Raven five lengths start and went under to her by only a head, while Fantastic Raven then made the pace before finishing fifth in the final.''

Fantastic Raven also won a semi-final of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg, making Explosive Venom's credentials for a "quiet" fifth grade on Saturday night appearing to be very sound.

Hardest for Explosive Venom to beat is likely to be speedy front-runner Ruby Keeping, who failed at her only Wentworth Park start but who has won eight of 12 provincial and country outings.

Ruby Keeping's trainer Jason Magri said: "She has a good chance on Saturday providing she can be the pacemaker.

"If she is unable to lead Ruby Keeping will struggle to run out a strong 520m.''

Highlight of Saturday's meeting is the clash between Zipping Kyrgios (box one) and Good Odds Cash (pictured above, box five) in the $10,000 to the winner Chairman's Cup over 520m.

Good Odds Cash will be favourite following her unlucky fourth in Zipping Maserati's The Brother Fox at Dubbo last Saturday along with her fine Wentworth Park record of five wins and seven placings from 16 starts.

She is not badly positioned in box five as Ritza Donna, box four, tends to be a slow starter.

Zipping Kyrgios fell at his most recent Wentworth Park outing on April 9 and resumed with a fourth to Fantastic Raven in a heat of The Brother Fox at Dubbo on May 14.

Zipping Kyrgios has not won since March but Minnie Finn, whose husband John trains the crack sprinter, said: "He is trialling as well as ever,

"We have just given Zipping Kyrgios a trial at Richmond and he has never gone better.

"But in his recent races he seems to be lacking in confidence because has not been reproducing his trial form on race night.''

Zipping Kyrgios has the rails box and while he has won six of his 11 appearances wearing the red rug, Minnie Finn is dubious about the draw on Saturday.

"I've never been a big fan of box one at Wenty,'' Finn said.

Ruby Keeping's trainer Jason Magri is upbeat about the prospects of Our Amelia, who has box six in the Congratulations Raelee Shearear Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Our Amelia has already won four Wentworth Park races in fifth class company and is nicely positioned out wide in box six.

"Since she won in her personal best Wenty time of 29.67 on May 18 I have given Our Amelia another hit-out there and she trialled very well,'' Magri said.

"Our Amelia is absolutely thriving.''
