Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg (G1)

Louis Is Ready To Rumble

By Jeff Collerson
Steve Kavanagh won the Golden Easter Egg 12 years ago with Cosmic Rumble and tonight is banking on that champion's grandson Louis Rumble giving him a second crack at the famous Wentworth Park group one race.

Louis Rumble, who has box two in the second and strongest semi-final, is bred to win an Easter Egg as while his maternal grandfather Cosmic Rumble won in 2010, his sire Fernando Bale took out the big event in 2015.

In last week's heats Louis Rumble began with his customary zip and wasn't headed, clocking 29.90 for the 520m after posting splits of 5.48, 13.85 and 17.95.

Tonight Louis Rumble needs to begin with his usual dash if he is to cross Handsome Rhino, who has box one and who raced very wide from box seven in his 29.73 heat win.

Steve Kavanagh said: "Louis Rumble has to come out cleanly, go like hell and then hope they can't catch him.

"He not only has to get around the dog in box one but he has to be well clear to stay ahead of the strong dogs drawn out wide.

"Good Odds Cash in box eight will be among those hard to hold off.''

John Finn's warrior Zipping Kyrgios in box seven and the Andrea Dailly trained Daph's Ascend in six also possess strength at the end of 520m.

While Louis Rumble has drawn the toughest semi-final, pre-post final favourite She's A Pearl looks to be in the easiest qualifier, semi-final number four.

She's A Pearl will exit box two and although she is unbeaten in five races from box eight, the draw she had in her scorching best of the night 29.47 heat win, her record from inside boxes is flawless.

She has won each of her three races from boxes one, two and three and trainer Jodie Lord said: "She's A Pearl has a reputation of being an outside box specialist but we probably have seen more of her from wide draws.

"I don't think boxes matter much to She's A Pearl because she goes so fast early and is just a really top class race bitch.

"Tachycardic who has box one has pace and I've seen him move to the right when he jumps but I believe She's A Pearl will be off and gone by the time that happens.''

National Futurity winner Idolize is undefeated at Wentworth Park and is unbeaten from box three so looks set to enhance her record in the first Easter Egg semi-final.

Idolize is chasing her fourth victory in as many starts at Wenty and the Victorian's trainer Peter Presutto said: "Since her heat win last Saturday I reckon she has had her best week in a long while.

"Idolize did not jump as fast as normally when she won her heat and I put that down to the transition of coming back from the Victorian starting systems to the NSW boxes.

"I don't want her to dwell slightly again because she is so consistent with her jumping.

"Idolize seems to have a good draw although I'm wary of Lala Kiwi in box four, because she is so much better than what she has shown so far in Sydney.''

The third semi-final looks a match between the Jason Mackay-trained Fantastic Raven, arguably the most improved greyhound in the series, and the Danielle Matic-prepared Wow, chasing his 32nd win in 57 starts.

Fantastic Raven is ideally positioned in box one but Wow is also nicely placed in two as while he has a reputation of being a wide runner, he has won five of 10 starts from tonight’s draw.
