Final Pieces Of Dubbo's Big Night Determined Today

By Peter Davis
Dawson Park is generally a hive of activity on Tuesday mornings with more than 100 trials conducted on a weekly basis but it’s a very different scenario this week.

The Ladbrokes Brother Fox Cup heats highlighted the card on Saturday night and the final component of the track’s richest race night is held this afternoon.

Five heat heats of both the Zipping Garth @ Stud (Maidens over 318m) and Feral Franky @ Stud (4th and 5th Grades at 400m) complete the make-up of Friday’s finals night – the richest ever meeting conducted in the central west of NSW.

With 25 of the 38 maidens in the Zipping Garth series ($10,000 to-the-winner) on debut, punters will be looking to the marketplace for early moves in betting.

The Feral Franky series (also at $10,000) offers more clarity for wagering with the speedy Velocity Alias (race six, box one) arriving at the track for the first time after completing a hat-trick of wins at Nowra on May 16 (over 365m).

She’s in career best form yet faces a real examination from the Narromine-based Miss Irwin (box four). Miss Irwin posted a sizzling 17.54 win over 307m at Bathurst on May 17 and has missed a place only once in 16 starts (six wins).

Dip It In – a five-time winner at Wentworth Park – is the class runner but is back in trip (from 520m) on recent starts and must contend with box five.

Emerging young trainer Ricky Brewer will make the 5 ½ hours trip from his new Bargo base with Fernando Alonso (race seven, box 1) and Boaz (race eight, box one) sure to give a great sight in their Feral Franky heats.

Fernando Alonso is back in class (and distance) on recent Wentworth Park outings while the speedy Boaz has just returned from a break.

The well-related son of Fernando Bale has a slick 22.42 seconds win to his credit at Richmond and appeals as the best bet of the day.

A massive crowd gathered at Dawson Park for the Brother Fox Cup heats on Saturday and the track will again be heaving on Friday night.

Sky Sports Radio’s Dave Stanley and Luke Marlow will host from Dawson Park with local hero and in-demand Stud dog Feral Franky to make a welcome return to the track.
