Cassie Back For The Final & Ricky's 10th

By Peter Davis
Trainer Ricky Brewer departed Kennerson Park on February 15 with his ninth winner for the year and makes the trip back on Monday with three chances to crack double figures.

The speedy Quirky Cassie posted a dominant eight lengths win in heat of the Ladbrokes Back Yourself series over 307m last week, registering a best-of-day 17.76 seconds.

A daughter of champion sire Barcia Bale, Quirky Cassie dominated from the seven alley in her hollow heat win and moves to box two for the $2000 to-the-winner final.

She’s not managed a place in three starts when drawn box one yet her good pace and very reliable box manners entitles her to be considered the one to beat.

The consistent Half Mask (box six) will, however, have strong support.

In his 17.88 secs heat win, Half Mask posted the slickest first section on the program over 307m (7.81 secs) and is racing in career best form.

Later in the night, Brewer will rug Her Destiny (Race 10) and Fernando’s Charm in the final race of the night.

Her Destiny has been struggling for form in recent weeks and again faces a stern test yet the well-related Fernando’s Charm is placed to advantage.

Fernando’s Charm – a half-sister to Hardaway Harada (35 wins) and Hardaway Titan (28) - made her debut at Richmond in October and, after a moderate start from box eight, was forced to the outside fence at the first turn by a wayward rival.

Her return to racing on February 15 at Bathurst resulted in a solid 17.91 secs win and, given the benefit of that initial ‘look’ at he track, she will be much improved.
