Sarita's Draw A Big Advantage

By Jeff Collerson
Sarita was the slowest heat winner of the "big three'' finalists in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Bitches Only Series at Wentworth Park but the box draw gives her a definite edge over faster rivals Vicki's Queen and On The Rocks.

In the November 25 heats Vicki's Queen led throughout from box two in a sizzling 29.78 for the 520m, while On The Rocks exploded out of box one to lead all the way in 29.84.

Sarita drew box six and after taking the lead at the first turn, she won easily in 29.87.

Sarita has box one in Saturday's final while Vicki's Queen and On The Rocks have drawn seven and eight.

Trainer Andy Lord said: "Sarita has a terrific draw and I expect her to be improved by her heat run because that race was the first time she had been tried beyond 365m.

"I would think there would be a bit extra left in her.''

While Vicki's Queen is a wide runner and can handle outside boxes, having On The Rocks, a front-running railer positioned on her right, could present a problem for both greyhounds.

Donna Campbell, trainer of On The Rocks, said: "There was only one finalist I did not want to be immediately outside of and that is Vicki's Queen.

"She tends to move wide when pressured so I'm worried they could bring each other unstuck.''

Syd Swain rates Hundred Degrees a better chance than his other qualifier Night Tracker for Saturday's Ladbrokes Dogs Only Series final.

Hundred Degrees, who has box two, had box one when he came from fourth on the back straight to win his heat in 30.42.

Night Tracker had box seven for his 30.35 heat win and has the same draw in the final.

"Zambora Zipper, who has box six, goes hard for the rails so he might give Night Tracker a good cart across but Hundred Degrees has a better draw because he loves being boxed near the fence.''

Hardest for them all to beat could be Romantic Storm, prepared by the in-form George Borg.

Romantic Storm lacks early pace and has box four but he was unlucky when a fast finishing second, from an even worse box seven draw, in Rampant Jimmy's heat.

Jax Kade is drawn to enhance his remarkably consistent Wentworth Park record in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Cash In Stakes.

The JODIE Lord-trained dog has box one and goes into the race with four wins and five seconds from a dozen Wentworth Park appearances.

"Jax Kade just loves Wentworth Park,'' Lord said.

"But although he has box one I don't want him going straight to the front because I've noticed he goes better when he is sitting just behind the pacemaker in the early stages.''

Most intriguing clash of the night comes when boom youngster Nangar Rust takes on former Tasmanian Ava Wine in the Ladbrokes Back Yourself Stakes.

Nangar Rust, who has box four, has not raced since May but trialled a near record 29.42 over 520m at Dapto last week.

Ava Wine is a litter brother to TAB Million Dollar Chase winner Handsome Prince, and is now a kennelmate of that dog's trainer Peter Lagogiane.

A winner of six from 19 Tasmanian races, Ava Wine has box one.
