Peter Purrs With Delight At Wide Draw

By Jeff Collerson
"You would not believe how wide my grin was when I discovered Bland Purr had finally drawn an outside alley when she got box seven at Wentworth Park on Saturday night,'' said owner-trainer Peter Spiteri when discussing his bitch's chances in race five, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

"At her past three Wentworth Park races Bland Purr has had boxes two, three and four, but she has always wanted an outside draw,'' Spiteri said.

"I don't know a lot about her opposition but Bland Purr has been jumping away cleanly in her recent races and if she comes out well on Saturday night I expect her to go close to winning.

"I would love to see her not far off the lead approaching the first bend because that is where she really starts to wind up.''

Bland Purr won in a sizzling 26.24 over 472m at Bulli in December, 2018, and had box eight when she posted a slick 34.62 winning over 600m at Dapto in March last year.

She has won 18 of 59 starts but from boxes seven and eight her record is eight wins from 16 appearances.

Bland Purr shapes up as Saturday's best value bet but the stand-out wager of the meeting should be the Jason Mackay-trained Zipping Rambo, who has box two in race four, a 520m fifth grade.

Zipping Rambo's win from box seven at Wentworth Park last Saturday night was nothing short of amazing as the dog was a distinct last, after finding early trouble, at the first turn.

The dog weaved through the field to win running away by over two lengths in the moderate time of 30.54, but he had come from behind and clocked 30.02 in winning at his only previous Wentworth Park outing on July 29.

"He goes from box seven last week to box two on Saturday but I don't think boxes matter much to him,'' trainer Jason Mackay said.

"Zipping Rambo will take a run wherever he can find it so he races with a lot of sense.

"What I like about this dog is that he is getting better all the time as every run he has seems to be better than the previous oune.''

Unbeaten Dubbo greyhound Mow Keeping will be all the rage for Saturday's opening race, a 520m fifth grade, after trialling well at Wentworth Park on Tuesday night.

Trainer Charmaine Roberts gave Mow Keeping a hit-out at Wenty and the dog recorded 24.50 in a post-to-post hand-slip.

"We were hoping he would run around 24.40 but as it was Mow Keeping's first look at the track I guess we should be satisfied with his time,'' Roberts' partner Shayne Stiff said.

"He handled the track well but this will be the first time Mow Keeping has been out of the 520m boxes.

"After winning twice over 400m at Dubbo we put him in a 516m race there last Saturday and he narrowly defeated Dennis Barnes' fast dog Nangar Ridge.

"We had not intended to put him in at Wentworth Park this week but then noticed there was a race for dogs with one to three wins and those conditions suited Mow Keeping perfectly.''

Highly Effective was run down by Nowra 630m record holder El Rapido at his first WP 720m test before fading to fifth behind Blue Moon Rising in a top grade event over the same course last week so should appreciate a drop in class on Saturday night.

The Darren Sultana-trained dog has box three in race seven, a 720m fifth grade, and looks set to enhance his impressive strike rate of 11 wins and 11 placings from 33 starts.
