Another Record Night For The Lords At Nowra

By Michael Cowley
Less than a month after their promising middle-distance star El Rapido broke the Nowra 630m track record, JODIE and Andy Lord claimed another track mark at the Shoalhaven track on Sunday night, then 20 minutes later, had another of their dogs equal it.

First up was Awesome Catch, who while not brilliantly away, the son of Fabregas and Veetee Express powered through to lead on the turn into the back straight and would eventually race away to win easily in 29.46s for the 520m journey. That time clipped 0.04s off the previous record set by Aphorism back in October 2015.

Awesome Catch was having just his eighth start for the Lords since joining their kennels having previously been trained in Victoria by Robert Camilleri.

In those eight starts, Awesome Catch has now won six times finished second once and fifth on the other occasion.

The dog had previously only raced twice at Nowra, winning a heat of the TAB Million Dollar Chase last September, then finishing third to Banjo Tifia in the Regional Final of that event a week later.

In the following race, Winlock On Top pushed through to lead on the first bend and then blew away his rivals, winning by almost 10 lengths, and incredibly clocking 29.46s.

Coincidentally, the second placing Awesome Catch had recorded recently was behind Winlock On Top at Dapto in 29.68s on July 16, who managed to turn the tables on his kennelmate from the week earlier at the same track.

Nowra is becoming a happy hunting ground for the Lords. Back on June  29, El Rapido roared around Nowra clocking 36.09s to smash the previous record at the track which stood at 36.36s, set by the Lord-trained Zipping Cia earlier this year.
