Paul and Pam's Stunning Success Out West

By Michael Cowley
To say that husband and wife training team of Paul and Pam Braddon have been having a fair run, would be like saying most kids don’t mind Christmas.

The Cowra-based couple are in the midst of what could only be described as an incredibly dominant streak of success on the State’s Western Districts tracks - their two “home” tracks at Bathurst and in particular Dubbo

The Braddons were at it again on Friday night winning another three races on the Dubbo card with Blazing Lisa and Pip’s Delight scoring for Pam, and Paul chipping in with a victory for Flaming Fury in the top grade event.

While the restrictions have now eased, since the introduction of the regional zoning in late March, the couple have enjoyed amazing success.

Paul has had 18 winners from 40 runners, while Pam has produced 17 winners from 39 starters. They have also had 14 dogs finish second and three dogs run third among those starters, all since March 27.

“It’s been good … as long as it keeps going that would be great,” Paul said. “The dogs have come through the grades pretty quickly, but they might find it a bit tougher now in top grade, but they have a good winning strike rate haven’t they?

“I think that (the regional zoning) was probably the main reason we have had the success, but I don’t know, we sort of always race at Dubbo and like it out there, and the dogs go well out there.”

In the 12 meetings at Dubbo during the period, Paul has won 13 races, and not to be outdone, Pam has put the collar and lead on 13 winners of her own.

Their other winners have come at Bathurst, with Pam winning four races from eight starters there, while Paul has won with five of his starters at the Kennerson Park circuit.

“They have all been racing consistently well, and the way Blazing Lisa went last night, I would say we will head to Sydney with her and probably She’s A Gem sometime soon,” Paul said. “But like I said, they have all been racing consistently well.”

The couple have 17 in their Cowra kennels, but the standouts over the past couple of months have been Blazing Lisa and Meeka’s Joy for Pam, and Flaming Fury and She’s A Gem for Paul

Since March 27, Blazing Lisa has raced 12 times for seven wins and a second, while Meeka’s Joy has produced six wins and a second from nine starts.

Paul’s pair are just as impressive. She’s A Gem has had nine starts for six wins and three seconds, while Flaming Fury has had six wins, four seconds and third from 12 runs.
