Littermates Will Be Ready When Wenty Returns

By Jeff Collerson
Litter brothers Serious Object, Cash Currency and Idle Ranger, who each won impressively at Goulburn on Tuesday for owner-breeder Peter Spiteri, will have experience on their side when they finally get to Wentworth Park.

"I bred them from a mating of Oaks Road and my brood bitch Amyjo, and when the litter was ready to be broken in I would load them up every Tuesday night and take them to Wentworth Park for a trial,'' Spiteri said.

"Because they were educated at Wenty, if they are good enough to race there, lack of track know-how won't be a problem.

"Amyjo whelped nine pups to Oaks Road and they all have ability, with two others, Hooper, being unbeaten in two starts, and Rapallo having had a win and a third from two appearances.''

Amyjo, the dam of Spiteri's trio of Goulburn winners, won only seven races for $12,500 prizemoney but was from a phenomenal litter which included the Spiteri-owned, JODIE and Andy Lord-prepared group 1 winner Let It Develop, Pierro Kade and Jack Kade

Let It Develop won 31 races and earned $206,000 while Jack Kade and Pierro Kade were also great money-spinners, winning 43 races between them for $143,000 in stakes.

Kent gives track record a nudge

KENT Kilowatt gave Lismore's 420m track record a shake on Tuesday night with an all-the-way win in 23.72s, just .20s wide of the time standard set by the Tony Brett-trained Fast Times in December, 2016.

Kent Kilowatt, trained locally by Glenda Dart, scored his sixth win in 16 outings and is bred to be good, being a son of Lucy Lobster, who won the group 1 Vic Peters Classic for Newcastle trainer Charlie Lamb in 2014.

"Charlie Lamb reared Kent Kilowatt and the dog could always run, but his career was interrupted due to a torn hip support,'' trainer Glenda Dart's husband John said.

"Tuesday night's win was the first indication Kent Kilowatt has given us that he might get further than 420m because his run home time was excellent.

"We have 20 greyhounds in work and they are the best team we have had in our kennels for many years.''
