Karly Bred To Be A Winner

By Jeff Collerson
It's no surprise Karly Rowe won at Nowra on Thursday with Exude Lightness, her first greyhound, because the 24-year-old was born into the sport.

Exude Lightness was having only her second start but began brilliantly from box eight and led throughout to win her 365m maiden race by a half-length.

Karly is the daughter of Andrew Rowe, a long-time successful trainer, lure driver and racetrack "jack-of-all-trades'' while her grandfather Ernie Rowe was part-owner and the early trainer of the great Fast Sapphire.

That dog was judged the best in NSW when acknowledged as the Greyhound of the Year in 1980, with his major triumph of a sequence of important wins during that 12 months being success in the National Sprint Championship.

Proud father Andrew said: "Karly and her brother Adam have been helping me with my greyhounds for years but Adam now has a full-time job as a welder so doesn't have a lot of spare time.

"Karly though is an aspiring vet and is a year four vetarinary nurse working with Linda Corney, while she has also worked as a swabbing steward and starter at various tracks.

"Our family bred Exude Lightness from my brother ADRIAN's bitch Wayang Angel, who won eight races.

"I trained her and after she won at Dapto exactly three years ago I advised ADRIAN to buy a straw from Fernando Bale and breed from Wayang Angel.

"I drove the lure on three occasions when Fernando Bale raced and won so I knew how incredibly fast he was.

"In October, 2017 Fernando Bale's fee was $3300 but ADRIAN hesitated and by the time he decided to buy the straw the fee had shot up to $7700.

"But he was happy to make the purChase and Wayang Angel produced nine puppies, with the first three to race, Exude Lightness, Taw General, which I train, and Mac Olga, who is trained by Gary Eslick, having now won five races.

"There are nine in the litter and they should all be winners, while Wayang Angel is due to whelp her second litter, to Barcia Bale, on October 8.''

A high profile recent "mum'' is Amyjo, who whelped eight bitch and two dog puppies a week ago to Fernando Bale.

Amyjo's previous litter to Oaks Road include potential superstar SERIOUS Object, Jax Kade who scored his second Wentworth Park win on Wednesday, and Idle Ranger, Hooper and Rapallo, who have won 20 races.

Victorian TAB Million Dollar Chase candidate Christo Bale, already the winner of 16 from 34 starts and $110,000, trialled brilliantly at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Handled by Sydney's Simon Rhodes on behalf of trainer Mark Delbridge, Christo Bale stumbled at box rise but still managed to zoom over the 520m in 29.78, just .05sec outside Shetland's time standard for that night's racing.

Christo Bale was more impressive than fellow Victorian Weblec Ace, who took 30.16 to cover the Wentworth Park 520m in his solo trial last Wednesday.

Weblec Ace has qualified for the MDC semi-finals courtesy of his August win in the Victorian Sprint Championship, when he ran down the mighty Simon Told Helen.
