Ebby ready to take on the best

By Jeff Collerson
"He is now ready to take on the best dogs in the country,'' was how trainer Michael Eberand analysed Friday's dazzling performance by his speedster Ebby Infrared, who scored his 23rd win in 43 starts.

Ebby Infrared was second away but quickly cleared the field and despite getting wide on the first turn, careered away to win in 30.36s.

"The reason he gets off on the bend is because Ebby Infrared follows the lure, not the rail, and since the lure has been on an extended arm, he tends to get immediately in line with it.

"While he has been going terrific for a long while now, Friday night was the first time he has produced an outstanding run home time, which is why I consider he is now ready to take on the really good dogs.''

Eberand, who owns the exciting young stud dog Aussie Infrared, was celebrating again 24 hours after Ebby Infrared's win when Catch The Thief, a son of Aussie Infrared, took out the group 2 WA Derby at Cannington.

Trained in Victoria by Matthew Clark, Catch The Thief lifted his tally to 11 wins from 18 appearances with a near course record 29.32 performance.
