Another Young Cup for Peter Scott

Astute local mentor Peter Scott has recorded his second Young Cup in the space of three years, with Fire Up Keith leading throughout to take out the prestigious local event.

In the 2019 edition of the South West Slopes Credit Union Young Cup, Fire Up Keith speared the lids from box 3 and was able to go coast to coast, recording a winning time of 30.11s.

Trained in Junee by Scott, and raced by local identity Greg Derrick, the son of Magic Sprite and Half A Chance, held off a late charge from the Rod McDonald-trained Tony’s Rescue by a length and a quarter. Que Allen for Geoff Sheather from Goulburn was well back in third place.

Scott had previously won the Young Cup in 2017 with Wild Josh, a great achievement for a man with only a small kennel of dogs.

The win on Boxing Day, took Fire Up Keith’s record to six wins and 10 placings from 24 starts.

The Young Hotel Sprint was taken out by local bitch Unrushed trained by Geoff Sheather and raced by Polly Thurkettle.

Unrushed, a daughter of Magic Sprite and Irish Marina, won by a nose from the Lorraine Roy-trained Tammy’s Chance, with Rod McDonald’s Dana Corporal third.

A huge crowd was on track for the club’s biggest night of the year, and club president Greg Prest thanked all of the club’s long-time sponsors and his staff making Boxing Day night a memorable evening once again for the club and local community.
