Lady Snow White No Fairytale For Frank

By Jeff Collerson
Lady Snow White went within .10sec of Fast Times track record set nearly five years ago when she led throughout over 420m at Lismore on Monday, a time that shocked trainer Frank Hancock.

"I thought she was capable of clocking around 23.80 so was pleasantly surprised when she recorded 23.62,'' Hancock said.

Lady Snow White, a daughter of Black Magic Opal, is from the only litter whelped by Hancock's former top class sprinter Lady Abigail, a winner of 20 races.

"I will breed from Lady Abigail again so long as I can get a straw from Collision,'' Hancock said.

"There are no big plans for Lady Snow White, I will just take one race at a time.

"When she was born she was just a little ball of white fluff so her kennel name became Casper, after the friendly ghost in the old cartroons.

"Now though, as she gets older, there are little black specks coming through her skin.''

The Casey family from the NSW Northern Rivers won't forget Monday's racing in a hurry as Stephen won the Maitland Supporters Club Gold Collar final with $61 rank outsider City One and son DEAN took out another race at the Hunter Valley track with Sudden Comfort.

Not to be outdone, Stephen's wife Debbie took Mia Beryl May, another member of their team, to Lismore and won a 259m event.

"It has always been a family effort for us,'' said 60-year-old Stephen.

"Because it is a 680km drive from our kennels at Doubtful Creek, near Casino, to Maitland, DEAN and I took City One and Sudden Comfort while Debbie handled Mia Beryl May.

"City One and Sudden Comfort seemed well suited by the roomy Maitland course so we are looking forward to the big Grafton track opening shortly.

"They should both go well there.

"At this stage there is not much between the Gold Collar winner City One and her sister Sudden Comfort, although DEAN's bitch might be a bit stronger at the finish.

"Debbie and I have been in greyhounds all our lives but we couldn't manage these days without DEAN's help and advice, he is the backbone of the business.

"Training greyhounds is a wonderful hobby but it can be very time consuming, as we left at 9am to get to Maitland in time for kennelling and then we had to be up and about early Tuesday morning because the dogs don't sleep in.''

Fire Legend, Fire On Ice and Arctic Kingdom, members of Tick Away Fire's litter to Fernando Bale, have earned their breeder, trainer Mark Moroney, nearly $259,000 and now her next litter look like being successful on the track.

Black Firebrand, a 19 months old son of My Redeemer and Tick Away Fire, led all the way over 400m at Maitland on Monday in a respectable 22.75sec.

Engaging Fire, Black Firebrand's litter sister, finished fifth in a maiden race at Gosford on Tuesday night.

"I have another from the litter called Frozen Fire who is unraced but who I am saving for the Grafton winter carnival,'' Mark Moroney said.

"He is a big, clumsy sort of dog but he can run so I think the roomy new Grafton track should suit him.''
